The Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, successors to the original Pixel series, are the main focus in the smartphone industry lately. Unfortunately, unlike their predecessors, they’re receiving negative attention. Users of the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL experienced more problems and issues than one can count. Starting from the microphone issues, slow charging times, and Android Auto, to the screens “burning-in” and the “black smear” issue affecting some screens. As you can see, most of the issues affect the OLED displays of two of Google’s flagships, and now another issue has emerged. This time, the issue concerns the Google Pixel 2 XL’s flashing screen, and the affected users are bothered by this.
The issue with the screens of Google’s LG, and HTC smartphones are so persistent that Girard Gibbs is investigating claims against the three manufacturers that made the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. Moreover, owners of both smartphones are invited to join a class action suit against the phone makers. As mentioned above, the latest issue concerns the Google Pixel 2 XL flashing screen that flooded Google’s support forums. Basically, the screen starts flashing when being unlocked or locked, and no one seems to be able to figure out a permanent fix.
“I’m not sure why, but the Pixel 2 XL screen flashes when unlocking (fingerprint and lock button), when the screen wakes up because of notifications, when the screen dims and the phone locks, and when manually locking,” one of the users said on the Pixel User Community.

Google’s Product Forums are crowded with disturbed users who report the issue with the Pixel 2 XL flashing screen when unlocking and locking the smartphone. It doesn’t always happen though. However, it has happened enough times for worried users to seek out help from Google. The Pixel 2 XL flashing screen was even caught on a video and shared on the Phandroid YouTube channel.
The Pixel 2 flashing screen also has nothing to do with how the device is being unlocked or locked, users said in their reports. The smartphone displays a bright white flash whether users are pressing the sleep/wake button or using the fingerprint scanner to unlock the smartphone. The bright white flash will appear before the locking or unlocking is completed.
Users of Pixel 2 XL phones that are facing this issue said that not even restarting the device or its factory reset will fix the issue with the Pixel 2 XL flashing screen. However, it is important to add that they managed to temporarily fix this issue by disabling and then enabling the Ambient display again. Users are hopeful that the issue that they are facing with the Google Pixel 2 XL burning screen has nothing to do with the hardware, and that this is rather a software problem.
“I have found that toggling ambient display off and on, only temporarily stops this from happening,” another user said after trying this solution.
Also, some users of the Nexus 6P have reported in the comments that they are facing the same issue since the update to Android Oreo. However, the problem is not as persistent as the one Pixel 2 XL is facing. Many owners have reported their Pixel 2 XL flashing screen issue, and if you are one of the affected owners, you should get in touch with Google, as the company is offering an RMA to owners of the Pixel 2 XL.
