Every month, multiple new crypto presales are being launched – we’ve ranked them for you. This is how we conduct unbiased research when evaluating top presale projects. 

• Project objectives: Our focus is on the objectives of every presale project, spanning different niches and goals, to ensure diversified investments for presale investors.
• Token use cases: Equally important to our methodology is the use case of the project’s native token. Without a use case, there is little reason to buy the token other than for speculation.
• Tokenomics: We analyze the tokenomics of presale projects, including the total number of tokens in supply, presale allocation, and token allocation for marketing, staking, and operating expenses. We prefer projects that issue most of their tokens upfront, reducing the risk of a major sell-off.
• Hype and broader sentiment: We prioritize presales already popular with cryptocurrency stakeholders. To get this information we camp on popular social networks to assess sentiment, including relevant Reddit groups, Telegram, and Twitter.
• Team and utility: A strong team with relevant experience increases project success, while a clear utility demonstrates the token’s value and potential for growth, reducing investment risk.

What is a crypto token presale? 

Crypto presales allow investors to buy newly launched tokens before they’re listed on exchanges. Think of it like a stock IPO that offers shares before they’re added to the NYSE or NASDAQ. Just like IPOs, crypto presales are popular with growth investors. 

Presales offer exposure to crypto projects from the ground up. This is like investing in Tesla in 2010 – when the firm was valued at just $1.7 billion. At its peak, Tesla was valued at over $1 trillion, highlighting the potential of IPO investments.

This is the same as crypto presales – most begin life with a small market capitalization. 

As the crypto project reaches its roadmap targets, this is often reflected in its valuation. Crypto presales typically offer discounted prices to early investors. Some presales increase the token cost price incrementally. For example, the initial batch of tokens might sell for $1 each. After that, the next batch might sell for $1.25. 

This incentivizes investors to complete their presale purchase at the earliest stage possible. 

Moreover, the best crypto presales offer an immediate upside. After the presale, tokens are usually listed at higher prices on exchanges. For example, suppose presale investors pay $1 per token.

Those new to crypto presales should understand how they work before proceeding. We’ll now take a much closer look at the end-to-end presale process. 

a. Prelaunch, whitepaper, and token creation

Before the presale launches to the public, there are several steps to be aware of. First and foremost, the project will create a whitepaper. This should explain everything there is to know about the new project, such as what problems it solves and how it aims to achieve its goals. 

The whitepaper should also explain the role of its proprietary token – including any use cases and real-world utility. A well-written whitepaper also covers the tokenomics. This includes the total supply of tokens, how many will be sold in the presale, and whether or not transactions are taxed.

Investors need access to a comprehensive whitepaper that provides all necessary information about an upcoming presale. This will enable them to make informed decisions before participating.

Additionally, the project will create a new token before the presale begins. In most cases, the token will be based on an existing blockchain, such as Ethereum or Binance Smart Chain, but other network standards may also be utilized. The newly created token will have a unique contract address supported by an immutable smart contract.

The best crypto presales get their smart contract audited by reputable third parties. This ensures the smart contract doesn’t have any vulnerabilities, and that it can’t be changed by the project’s developers. b. Crypto presale launch

The best crypto presales are launched to the general public – meaning anyone can invest. However, we should note that some projects offer a ‘private’ presale round. This is usually offered to institutional investors and influencers with a large following. The private round offers preferential pricing but often requires a significant minimum investment.

Nonetheless, once the main presale commences, there are often various stages. As each stage passes, the presale price increases. This means that those investing early can secure a reduced entry price. 

• For example, suppose stage 1 sells each token at $0.50. 
• By stage 4, the tokens could be priced at $1. 
• This means that stage 1 investors have already secured an upside of 100%. 

In terms of the investment process, most presales only accept established cryptocurrencies. This often includes ETH, USDT, and BNB – but this varies depending on the presale. Due to anti-money laundering regulations, presales cannot directly accept fiat money. In doing so, this could also trigger issues with the SEC, as the presale could be viewed as an unregistered securities offering.

That said, some crypto presales have found a legal way around these restrictions. For example, Bitcoin ETF Token has partnered with a debit/credit card payment processor. The third-party processor conducts KYC on behalf of the investor, enabling them to use Visa or MasterCard. 

Nonetheless, most investors use cryptocurrencies when investing in presales, which offers privacy and anonymity. The investor connects their wallet to the presale website and chooses which cryptocurrency to use as payment. After entering an investment amount, the cryptocurrency tokens are transferred to the presale wallet.

c. After the crypto presale 

Most crypto presales set a hard cap target. This is the maximum amount they aim to raise. Once the hard cap has been achieved, the presale is over. If the hard cap isn’t raised, the presale will close on a predetermined date. 

Either way, investors usually receive their tokens after the presale has closed. The tokens will be transferred to the same wallet used to make the presale investment. This protects investors, as it prevents the tokens from being claimed by an unauthorized person. 

The project usually lists its tokens on crypto exchanges a few days after the presale. The tokens could be listed on popular centralized exchanges like eToro or MEXC, depending on the hype generated. However, most projects initially opt for a decentralized exchange, as no listing requirements exist. 

Uniswap and PancakeSwap are popular options, but other decentralized exchanges could be considered.

Nevertheless, once the tokens are listed on exchanges, they can be traded in the open market. If many new investors decide to buy the token, its value will likely increase. This secures even more profits for presale investors. 

However, there is no guarantee this will happen. For whatever reason, presale investors might decide to sell their tokens after the exchange listing.

The token could drop below its presale price if there isn’t enough buying pressure from new investors. This is always the risk with new crypto presales – so investors should consider diversifying. 

Are crypto presales a good investment? What are the main advantages?

We cover the risks of crypto presales in much more detail. But first, let’s examine the benefits of becoming a presale investor. 

Early access to new crypto projects

The main concept of presales is allowing investors to access brand-new projects from the ground up. The stock IPO analogy is a great example. 

For instance, we mentioned earlier that Tesla held its IPO in 2010. At the time, electric vehicles were still viewed as a ‘fad’. Nobody could have imagined just how successful Tesla would become. Those who took a chance during Tesla’s IPO would now be looking at gains of over 15,000%. 

Let’s look at another example of how crypto presales offer access to new concepts. 

Ethereum, now the second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization, held its presale in 2014. Ethereum introduced the ‘smart contract’ concept, meaning blockchain technology could be used to enter trustless agreements. Prior to Ethereum, cryptocurrencies were used solely for payment purposes. 

According to CoinCodex data, the Ethereum presale was priced at $0.31. According to CoinMarketCap, Ethereum was priced at nearly $5,000 in November 2021—an unprecedented increase of over 1.6 million percent. Crucially, investors took a chance on Ethereum’s smart contract vision—and it paid off handsomely.

Invest at the lowest price point possible 

The best crypto presales offer preferential pricing to early investors. This incentivizes people to invest before the tokens are listed on crypto exchanges. Some presales increase prices as each batch of tokens sells. 

This is similar to how venture capitalist (VC) investments work. Long before a startup is listed on stock exchanges, VCs will invest money at a low valuation.

As each funding round passes, the valuation increases. This means early VC investors already have an upside. And then, once the startup goes public, it’ll be listed on stock exchanges at an even higher valuation. 

Dogecoin is a popular example of how early investors made significant gains in the crypto presale space. When the DOGE presale was first launched, the tokens were being sold for just $0.000299 each. Due to popular demand, Dogecoin was added to several crypto exchanges. The price of DOGE recently reached a high of approximately $0.1337. Translating yields all-time gains that go over 23000%.

Presales are typically run by brand-new projects that are just starting. They require funding for their operations, so the presale offers favorable pricing. This can be compared to a real-world startup selling equity to early investors at a low valuation. 

The result is that presale investors can target a huge upside potential once the tokens are listed on exchanges. The project will usually be listed with a small market capitalization, offering plenty of room for growth. 

• For example, a project sells 50% of its token supply to presale investors.
• The presale has a hard cap target of $10 million.

Now let’s look at another example of how lucrative presale investments can be. 

According to Coincodex, NEO held its presale campaign in 2015/16. The presale initially priced NEO tokens at $0.032. In early 2018, NEO hit an all-time high of $196.85. This means that early presale investors saw returns of over ​​615,000%. For every $1,000 invested, the NEO presale investment would have been worth $6.1 million at its peak. 

As we explain later, many examples of crypto presales haven’t performed well after their exchange listing. Some tokens see a decline after being added to an exchange – meaning presale investors lose money. 

Tips for choosing the best crypto presales to invest in

Finding the next Dogecoin is no easy feat. Many presales launch monthly, and most will fail to live up to the hype. In addition to diversification, research and due diligence are crucial. 

Here are some tips on choosing the best crypto presales for your portfolio.  

Scrutinize the whitepaper and assess the project’s goals 

The only way to get a 360-degree understanding of how the presale project works is via its whitepaper. This should be accessible on the project’s website. As we discussed earlier, the whitepaper should be very comprehensive. 

At a minimum, the whitepaper should inform you of:

• The objectives of the project and what existing problems it aims to solve
• The role of its native crypto token and its respective use cases
• The tokenomics – including the total supply, presale distribution, and the underlying blockchain network
• The roadmap objectives with clear target dates to achieve them
• The team behind the project and what relevant experience they have

We’d suggest starting with the project’s objectives. Just like investing in a new startup, you’ll want to understand what product or service is being developed and whether or not there’s likely to be demand in the broader market.

Conversely, it’s likely worth avoiding if you don’t understand what a presale project is looking to achieve or what existing problems it solves. 

We came across many crypto presales that have grandiose objectives. But when we scrutinized the role of its native token, we often found few use cases. This is an important distinction to make as a presale investor. If the token doesn’t have any real-world utility, why would people buy it? Crucially, the only motivation would be speculation. 

Evaluate the starting market capitalization

It’s also important to evaluate the presale project’s market capitalization. Some investors prefer presales with a low valuation. The reason is simple: small-cap cryptocurrencies have the potential to grow exponentially. 

A significant inflow of new buyers is not required. On the contrary, even low levels of buying pressure can result in sizable gains. 

• However, this isn’t the case with large-cap cryptocurrencies. For example, Bitcoin was valued at over $1 trillion at its peak. 
• For Bitcoin to grow by 10x, its market capitalization would have needed to reach $10 trillion, requiring substantial capital inflows. 
• Now compare this to a crypto presale project valued at $5 million. 
• Gains of 10x would mean the project is still worth just $50 million. And at 100x, just $500 million. This is why small caps are attractive. 

Now, the market capitalization of a crypto presale will not be known until the fundraising campaign is over. This is because the market capitalization depends on how many tokens were sold—only the circulating supply should be considered.

Moreover, you’d also need to know what price the tokens will be listed at once added to exchanges. 

For example:

• Let’s say a presale project creates 1 billion tokens and aims to sell 400 million tokens, or 40% of the total supply. 
• We’ll say the project sells just 20% or 200 million tokens. 
• The tokens will be listed on crypto exchanges at $0.10 each.
• This means the project has a market capitalization of $20 million (200 million tokens x $0.10)

As a side tip, if the project sells its entire presale allocation – this is a good sign. This could result in new investors buying the tokens once they’re listed on exchanges. After all, a sold-out presale can create hype and FOMO (fear of missing out). 

Broader market sentiment 

Crypto presales can have solid fundamentals—such as a strong whitepaper, a unique product, and many token use cases. However, the crypto markets are irrational, and often, the most successful crypto presales are based on hype rather than fundamentals. 

Therefore, it’s important to do some due diligence on how the crypto landscape perceives the presale. For example, it would be a major positive if the presale trended on social networks like Reddit and Twitter. Similarly, if multiple news websites pick up on it, this is also a good sign. 

Another way to gauge sentiment is to evaluate how much progress the presale is making. For example, investors are bullish if the presale has raised more than 50% of its hard cap target in the first week. Conversely, if the presale struggles to take off, the markets likely aren’t convinced of its potential. 

Ultimately, it’s wise to follow trends when investing in crypto presales. Even if the project has no identifiable use cases – hype and FOMO often result in significant gains. 

How to find new presale launches: Best practices

We’ve covered the benefits of investing in crypto presales and what to consider when choosing suitable projects. Next, we’ll discuss where to find new cryptocurrency presales to invest in. 

Social media 

Social media is an effective way to find the best crypto presales. If a presale is trending and generating hype, it will likely have a strong presence on the leading social networks. 

For example, consider using Twitter hashtags to see which crypto presales are creating a buzz. You can try keywords like ‘crypto presale’, ‘crypto ICO’, or ‘new crypto launch’. Focus on Tweets with a large number of likes and comments. Then, assess what people are saying about the project. If the broader sentiment is positive, check out the presale’s whitepaper. 

In addition, Reddit is also useful for finding trending presales. Initially, you can try searching for ‘presales’ and see what recent threads have been created. Once again, focus on threads with high engagement levels. 

Alternatively, you can also explore relevant Reddit groups. For example, the r/CryptocurrencyICO has over 188,000 members. This is dedicated to new and existing presale campaigns – so you’ll have access to the latest launches.

r/CryptoMoonShots has an even larger audience with over 1.9 million members. This Reddit group focuses on small-cap cryptocurrencies that could explode. Many are related to recently launched presales. 

Presale listing websites 

Next, check out some of the leading presale listing websites. These list upcoming crypto presales alongside their respective stats, such as the presale date, how much is being raised, and which cryptocurrencies are accepted for payment. 

Two of the most popular presale listing websites are:

• ICO Drops

You can also check out CoinMarketCap, which has a small directory of upcoming ICOs. Listing websites should be used as a starting point.

Investors should follow the best practices we discussed earlier to find a valid initial coin offering, such as scrutinizing whitepapers, assessing tokenomics, and researching use cases and utility.  

Crypto YouTube channels  

YouTube is also a great source for finding the best crypto presale options. Some analysts focus exclusively on new projects, allowing subscribers to discover presales before the broader markets.

For example, Jacob Bury looks for presales that have the potential to explode. Bury aims for growth of at least 10x and likes to invest at the earliest presale stage possible. This ensures that the lowest entry price is secured. 

That said, Jacob Bury still has just 23,200 subscribers. Therefore, it’s worth exploring crypto YouTube analysts with a much larger following. If they recommend a new presale, this could generate significant hype. Ultimately, the more exposure a presale has on social media – the better. 

What are the risks of crypto presales? 

We’ve established that crypto presales are attractive for the huge upside potential available when it is first listed on a decentralized exchange. However, they’re also inherently risky. Make sure you consider the following risks before proceeding.

Token price declines will result in financial loss 

Crypto presales are like investing in small-cap stocks. If you’re fortunate enough to pick a startup that becomes a large-cap behemoth – you’ll make sizable gains. But most small-cap stocks fail to deliver – leaving investors with double-digit percentage losses. 

This is much the same as investing in crypto presales. This can happen if presale investors sell their tokens as soon as they are listed on exchanges. 

Without sufficient buying pressure to counter sellers, the value of the presale token will decline. It can decline below the presale price you initially paid. Therefore, you should remember that you can lose some or all of your presale investment. 

Some presales are scams 

An increasing number of crypto presales turn out to be scams. 

• The idea is simple—the presale will make bold claims about its unique product or service and the many problems it solves. 
• This attracts millions of dollars from investors who buy into the project. 
• The presale developers will then disappear with investor funds. 
• In some cases, they’ll wait until the exchange listing, so they can also dump their own presale tokens. 
• Investors are left with worthless tokens – without any chance of recouping their losses.

Anonymous founders run many crypto presales, which means that investors have nowhere to turn if they are scammed.  

Liquidity issues 

We mentioned earlier that some of the best crypto presales are small-cap projects. This is because investors can target much higher gains than large caps. However, small-cap presales will often struggle to attract enough liquidity when listed on exchanges. 

This means that while you could profit, you might not be able to find a buyer when it’s time to sell. You might need to sell much lower to get the trade through. This could mean selling at a loss.  

Wallet hacks 

Another risk is that scammers prey on presale investors. They’ll try various schemes to gain access to the investor’s wallet. If successful, they’ll dump the presale tokens once they’re listed on exchanges. 

• For example, presale beginners often ask for help on social media websites like Twitter and Reddit.
• A hacker – pretending to be a representative of the presale, will then message the investor.
• They’ll convince the investor to click a link or share their wallet details.
• At this stage, the investor will lose their entire wallet contents. 

Another method is that hackers create fake groups on Telegram, impersonating the presale project. They might then claim to have a new wallet address for presale investments. The hacker will keep any cryptocurrencies sent to this address. 

Just be cautious when investing in presales. Avoid talking to strangers and never share any sensitive information. If you receive a private message from an unknown user of Telegram or Reddit – block them instantly. 

Are crypto presales legal?

The legalities of crypto presales will vary widely depending on the jurisdiction. For example, the SEC has charged many ICOs and presales, typically citing an “unregistered offering of crypto asset securities.” This is why many presales claim not to accept US investors. However, enforcement of these rules is virtually impossible. 

This is because the majority of crypto presales offer an anonymous investment experience. Presale investors aren’t required to give any personal information, as they’re investing in digital assets. They must connect a private wallet to the presale website and transfer an accepted cryptocurrency. 

Only when fiat money payments are involved will KYC processes be deployed. All that being said, crypto presales largely remain in a regulatory gray area – as explained by the International Bar Association. This is because regulators do not view cryptocurrencies as legal tender. And hence, they’re unregulated financial products. 

This allows presale projects to stay under the radar. In contrast, if a startup were to raise traditional capital from investors, they’d need to be registered accordingly. This ensures that conventional securities laws protect investors. As explained by the UK’s FCA, crypto ICO investors do not benefit from any consumer protections. 

How to invest in cryptocurrency presales?

Here’s a general step-by-step overview of how to invest in a crypto presale:

• Step 1 – Get a Crypto Wallet: Investors must usually connect their private wallet to the presale website. If you don’t currently have a wallet, consider MetaMask. Over 30 million people use it and can be downloaded as a browser extension or mobile app. The vast majority of presales are compatible with MetaMask.  
• Step 2 – Add Crypto to Wallet: You’ll need some crypto in your wallet before connecting to the presale website and investing. But first, you’ll need to check which cryptocurrencies the presale accepts. This is usually ETH, USDT, and/or BNB – but check nonetheless. Then, buy the respective cryptocurrency from an exchange and transfer the tokens to your private wallet. 
• Step 3 – Connect Crypto Wallet to Presale Website: Next, visit the crypto presale website of your choosing. Look for the ‘Connect Wallet’ button. Select the provider (e.g. MetaMask) and authorize the connection via your wallet. 
• Step 4 – Set up Presale Investment: You’ll need to provide two pieces of information to the presale website. First, the cryptocurrency you want to use as payment. For example, ETH or USDT. Second, the number of presale tokens you want to buy. 
• Step 5 – Confirm Presale Investment: The final step is to confirm the presale investment. You’ll need to do this from your private wallet. After you authorize the transfer, the cryptocurrencies will be sent to the presale wallet address. 

You can usually claim your tokens after the presale has finished. They’ll then be transferred to your private wallet.
