Every new year brings with it a wide array of new devices, ranging from the old standbys like the annual upgrades to the iPhone and Galaxy line-ups to less common devices like the OnePlus line. Now that the end of 2019 is nearly upon us, let’s look at the top 10 upcoming phones of 2020.
The first of the top 10 upcoming phones of 2020: Galaxy S11
The first phone on the list of the top 10 upcoming phones of 2020 is the Samsung Galaxy S11. This device gets the top spot because it’s expected to be the first of the group to be released. It’s believed to be slated for reveal on Feb. 18, so we don’t have very much longer to wait.
The S11 is expected to run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865 chipset, which could make it even faster than the iPhone 11 line-up if the benchmark tests are accurate. Screen protectors that are supposedly for the Galaxy S11 feature ultra-thin top and bottom bezels and curved sides. The S11 is expected to have a 4,500 mAh battery, while the S11 Plus could have 5,000 mAh battery, and the S11e could have a 3,800 to 3,900 mAh battery.
The S11 is expected to have a 6.7-inch display, while the S11 Plus could have a 6.9-inch display. The S11e could have a 6.4-inch display, according to leaks. We expect another pin-hole camera or possibly, to see the camera behind the display.
LG G9 ThinQ
The LG G9 ThinQ is expected to be unveiled in February, as the company has a history of revealing new devices at the Mobile World Congress. It could be released in March. The price tag is a bit unclear, as the LG G6 started at $650, while the G7 added $100 to that, and the G8 added another $100 to bring the price to $850.
There aren’t a lot of rumors about this device, given that it’s not as popular as other flagships released every year. We do expect an improved camera and a better display with a smaller notch.
Huawei has been struggling without access to Google Mobile Services, but the company has been making the best of the situation and plans to launch the P40 without it. The device will run on Android 10, however, since it is open source. Huawei will replace Google Mobile Services with its own Huawei Mobile Services, which will be an alternative to the Google Play Store.

Other expected features include an improved camera, better battery life, enhanced performance and a never-seen-before design.
Huawei Mate X
The Huawei Mate X is also expected to make an appearance in early 2020. Huawei management told French press in China that the foldable device will launch sometime in the first quarter. The Chinese company is already working on a model with an upgraded hinge, which TechCrunch says will be announced next year.
It’s expected that the device which will launch in early 2020 will be the Mate X that has already been revealed without many changes, despite the fact that the company took a step back on the device following Samsung’s debacle with the Galaxy Fold.
iPhone SE 2 or iPhone 9
We’ve also been hearing for a while that Apple could release a successor to the iPhone SE, possibly called the iPhone SE 2 or the iPhone 9. Supposedly, it will feature a design that’s nearly identical to that of the iPhone 8, which is why some are saying it will be called the iPhone 9 instead of the iPhone SE2. The phone is expected to be released in early 2020 with a $399 price tag.
OnePlus has made a name for itself with top-notch phones at very affordable prices, and next year the OnePlus 8 will likely be released, probably in mid-June. The device is expected to feature a faster refresh rate of 120 Hz and minimal screen bezels. It’s also rumored to have a punch-hole display for the selfie camera, unlike the OnePlus 7, which sported a pop-up camera. Previous models went with a teardrop design for the selfie camera, so a punch-hole camera would be new.
The OnePlus 8 could sport a triple-lens rear camera and 6.5-inch display. It could also be the first device from the Chinese handset maker to feature a curved display.
Galaxy Note 11
Samsung is expected to release the Galaxy Note 11 in August or September 2020. We have heard that the company might ditch the Note 11 and the Galaxy S11 lines next year and release a “Galaxy One” in early 2020, but we’re still hearing so many rumors about both handsets that it seems like this won’t happen this year.
The rumor about an under-display selfie camera also continues to circulate. If it doesn’t make an appearance in the S11, it could be ready by the time the Note 11 comes out later in the year. The device is expected to have a 120 Hz refresh rate, an upgraded S Pen and an improved camera. The Note 10 has a triple-lens camera on the rear, so it’s possible that the Note 11 could add another sensor. Samsung is also expected to add that 108 MP sensor we’ve been hearing so much about this year.
Most anticipated of the top 10 upcoming phones of 2020: iPhone 12
The iPhone 12 is probably the most anticipated device on this list of the top 10 upcoming phones of 2020. It’s expected to be unveiled and released in September 2020.
Rumors about the iPhone 12 have pretty much run the gamut this year, with one claim even suggesting Apple could release six new models next September. Rosenblatt analysts believe there will be one 6.1-inch model with 4G and an LCD and then 4G and 5G variants of the iPhone 12 Pro with a 5.4-inch OLED display and 4G and 5G variants of the iPhone 12 Pro Plus with a 6.1-inch OLED display. Rosenblatt also suggests there will be only a 5G version of the iPhone 12 Pro Max.
JPMorgan analysts are calling for four iPhone 12 models with screen sizes coming in at 5.4 inches, 6.1 inches and 6.7 inches. They expect there two be two 6.1-inch iPhone 12 models.
We’ve also heard the iPhone 12 could feature an in-display Touch ID fingerprint sensor. The device could feature a design similar to the iPhone 4 with a metal frame and squared edges supporting front and back glass panels.
Galaxy Fold 2
Rumors about the Galaxy Fold 2 are starting to pick up. It’s unclear when next year’s new Fold device will be revealed, given the delays in the launch of its predecessor. A photo of a device with a clamshell design is going around right now, and some have speculated that it will be the Galaxy Fold 2.
Bloomberg reported previously that the next Galaxy Fold device will have a five-lens camera, although other sources have indicated that it will have only a dual-lens camera. The Fold 2 could make an appearance with the Galaxy S11 in February, although if it does, it would be surprising that more details haven’t been leaked by now.
Sony Xperia 2
The Sony Xperia 2 is rumored to come with a 6.2-inch display, 6 GB of RAM and a 3,000 mAh battery. The device will reportedly feature wireless charging and run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865 chipset. Since its predecessor was announced in February, it seems possible the Sony Xperia 2 will also be announced in February. However, the first Xperia model didn’t hit store shelves until June, so the announcement could come later than February.
Other rumors suggest the rear camera will have eight lenses, but that seems like a bit of a stretch. Leaked renderings show a device with a triple-lens camera on the rear and a design similar to that of the Xperia 1. However, the display in the renderings was a 6.1-inch AMOLED display, which is smaller and has a lower resolution than that of the Xperia 1.
