OnePlus 6 To Launch Soon: Registrations Go Live On Amazon India

Updated on

OnePlus 6 launch date seems to be just around the corner. A recent report coming out of China claimed that the device would be unveiled on May 5th. But the company could release the phone even sooner. The OnePlus 6 registration page went live on Amazon India on Sunday, April 22, hinting at an imminent release. The device will be Amazon-exclusive in India. You can opt in to get notified when the handset goes on sale and receive other updates.

OnePlus has not confirmed the OnePlus 6 launch date, but it has been teasing the device for the last several weeks. OnePlus has also partnered with Marvel Studios to launch an Avengers: Infinity War-themed variant. Since the movie is releasing this Friday in the US and India, we should expect the OnePlus 6 to be unveiled around April 27th. The Avengers-themed model would have the same technical specifications as the standard variant. But it would get the Avengers branding and some preloaded content for the Avengers fans.

OnePlus tends to sell such special variants at a slight premium. Last year’s OnePlus 5T Star Wars limited edition was priced higher than the regular model. Amazon India director Noor Patel said OnePlus 6 was “inarguably one of the most anticipated smartphones in India today.” Amazon India has been OnePlus’s exclusive online partner for the last three years.

Via its online teasers, the Chinese company is positioning OnePlus 6 as a phone with insanely fast speed and a large bezel-less display. OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has confirmed that the upcoming flagship would be powered by up to 8GB RAM and Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 845 chipset. OnePlus will tightly integrate the software and hardware to optimize speed. The handset would offer up to 256GB storage. Just like OnePlus 5T, the new device would also be available in 6GB RAM variant.

The OnePlus 6 is said to feature a 6.28-inch bezel-less AMOLED display with 2560 x 1440p Full HD+ resolution. It would have an iPhone X-like notch at the top to accommodate the front camera, ear speaker, and other sensors. The notch is a controversial feature, so the company would give users the option to hide it. Case renders recently shared by Olixar revealed that there would be no bezels on the sides or at the bottom.

OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei claims the company has tested the notch with top 1,000 apps in the Google Play Store to ensure a smooth user experience. The OnePlus 6 would run the company’s custom UI skin OxygenOS on top of Android 8.1 Oreo. The phone would feature a vertically-arranged dual camera system on the back panel, consisting of a 16MP and a 20MP lens. The selfie camera is said to be 16MP.

Below the rear camera setup would be an LED flash and a pill-shaped fingerprint scanner. OnePlus recently teased on Twitter that OnePlus 6 would come with water- and dust-resistance. The Alert Slider would get a different placement and new functionalities such as “Slide to Focus.” The device would retain the 3.5mm headphone jack, but OnePlus could launch “OnePlus Bullets Wireless” earbuds along with the phone. The wireless earbuds are likely to be sold separately.

According to the rumor mill, the OnePlus 6 would pack a huge 3,450mAh battery with fast charging support. It should easily last more than a day of normal usage. Ahead of OnePlus 6 launch, the company has released a teaser to show off a ceramic finish rather than aluminum. It indicates that the phone would offer wireless charging capabilities. Scribed on the rear panel of the device is “Designed by OnePlus.” Vendors such as Xiaomi and Essential have used ceramic designs to offer wireless charging on their phones.

OnePlus has invited its customers to suggest ideas for the OnePlus 6 promotional campaign. The company claims many critical features such as the Gaming DND Mode that disables notifications while playing games and the headphone jack were the result of user feedback. You can share your ideas by commenting on the official forum, on their Facebook page, or on this YouTube video.

Indian site Moneycontrol has learned from its sources that OnePlus 6 launch in India is set for May 18th. The report added that the company would also increase the phone’s starting price to INR 39,999 ($605), much higher than OnePlus 5T’s INR 32,999 starting price. The higher storage variants could cost even more. Increasing prices so significantly could alienate OnePlus’s fan base because the company has built its business by offering premium specs at mid-range prices.
