An invitation circulated through the media last week confirmed that Apple would be having a spring event on March 27th. The event will focus on education, but we expect that there will be some announcements made as well – perhaps confirming the validity of the various iPad Pro 3 rumors floating around the web.

iPad Pro 3 Rumors

While the iPad line did get a pretty big revamp last year, these iPad Pro 3 rumors still have the potential to be true. With how popular the company’s tablets have become, continually breathing new life into their lineup is a surefire way to keep people talking about Apple products – especially considering we’ve got quite a few months until we see the next entries in their smartphone line. Back in March of 2017, Apple replaced the iPad Air 2 with the 9.7-inch iPad and discontinued the Mini 2. Keeping that in mind as well as the fact that the 10.5-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pros were revealed in June, it’s looking like these iPad Pro 3 rumors about a potential announcement and release date may actually have some ground to stand on.

While Apple hasn’t necessarily committed to yearly releases in all of their product lines, their products usually receive a revamp on a pretty regular basis. The iPad Pro 3 rumors are regarding newer features rather than a refresh of their current line, as it would likely still be a little too early for us to see an update to the new models introduced just last year.

However, the iPad Pro 3 rumors are certainly ever-present, with many suspecting we’ll see a variety of new additions in terms of features and functionality. Many believe that we’ll see an introduction of FaceID to the iPad line – a welcome addition that would bring the feature that made the iPhone X sell like hotcakes to a line that hasn’t traditionally been quite as popular as Apple’s smartphones.

At Lane Tech College Prep High School in Chicago on March 27, Apple urges the media and public alike to “Join us to hear new creative ideas for teachers and students.” Immediately following this announcement, the iPad Pro 3 rumor mill kicked into full throttle and we started to see some more speculation about what exactly we can expect from this event – with many expecting a new form of iPad.

New Models

Back in 2017, Apple registered two new iPads with the Eurasian Economic Commission. Registrations like this almost always mean new products, and this filing has kicked the iPad Pro 3 rumors into overdrive. However, given that there are reports that a 10.5-inch model would likely not release until the second half of the year, we’re anticipating that the announcement at the education event in the coming days will be a new form of the iPad or iPad Mini rather than a Pro model.

Pencil Support

The Apple pencil has been present in some of the higher tier iPads for quite some time at this point, and considering the upcoming education event it would make sense that Apple would announce an expansion of this functionality into their budget models. By giving children the ability to draw and create on more accessible devices, Apple may stand to capture a greater portion of the market moving forward – perhaps making lifelong customers in the process.

Performance Upgrades

The iPad Pro 3 rumors – like any rumor of an upgrade to an existing product – suggest that we’ll see a bump in power. While we might not see any revolutionary new features introduced at the Apple Education event, it would still be nice to have news that upcoming models are receiving faster processors and GPUs.

Price Cuts

Another option that is looking increasingly feasible for announcement at this event is pricing tweaks. Multiple outlets have reported that prices on older iPads should drop significantly in the coming year – getting devices into the hands of more users and making the iPad more accessible to educators.

All in all, it’s difficult to say whether the iPad Pro 3 rumors have any validity, We should expect some sort of announcement at the Apple Education event, however, and considering the way things are timed and Apple’s recent commercials focusing on students it would make sense for the company’s tablet line to receive a bit of a refresh.
