Samsung may not release the much-rumored Galaxy Note 5 Edge, even though a Samsung executive offered strong hints that the Note 5 would come alongside a dual-edge variant. Chinese website has learned from its sources that the Korean electronics giant will instead release a dual-edge Galaxy S6 Plus. The Chinese publication adds that Samsung is looking to capitalize on the success of the Galaxy S6 Edge.

Galaxy Note 5 to feature a 5.89-inch display

If the report is true, it is in line with previous rumors that the Galaxy Note 5 Edge will have a dual-edge display, but no S Pen stylus, which has become the signature of Samsung’s phablets. That device is coming in the form of Galaxy S6 Plus. There have been persistent rumors that Samsung would release the Galaxy Note 5 in July to step up the fight against Apple’s upcoming iPhone 6S. However, Samsung has rejected those rumors.

The Chinese publication also revealed the specs and features of Galaxy Note 5, but offered little details about the Galaxy S6 Plus. Sources told that the Note 5 will sport a 5.89-inch 2K Quad HD display, a 4,100mAh battery, and an improved S Pen stylus. It will run Samsung’s all-in-one Exynos 7422 processor that combines RAM, CPU, GPU, modem and storage on a single chip.

Galaxy Note 5 release date

The Galaxy Note 5 will feature wireless charging, USB Type-C port, and the UFS 2.0 Flash memory that has already appeared in the Galaxy S6. The phablet will be 7.9mm thick, and run Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. Recent reports suggest that the Galaxy Note 5 will likely feature a 21-megapixel camera with f/1.8 aperture to challenge Apple’s upcoming smartphone that will have significant camera improvements.

Samsung has traditionally refreshed the Galaxy Note series at the annual IFA event in September. So, we can expect the Galaxy Note 5 to arrive in September. However, little is known about the release date of Galaxy S6 Plus, which is supposed to replace the Galaxy Note 5 Edge.
