The Shenzhen-based smartphone maker OnePlus had a good last year with the success of its OnePlus 3 and 3T. Recently, there were speculations that the 128GB OnePlus 3T (Gunmetal) variant was discontinued as the OnePlus 5 is on the way. However, the company slammed all those reports today.
128GB OnePlus 3T is not discontinued
For those who do not know, the 128GB OnePlus 3T is not available for purchase currently and has not been for several days now. Several reports have claimed that this variant has been discontinued as the company is making way for the release of the OnePlus 5.
According to the reports, the Chinese smartphone maker is still a small company and is aiming to concentrate on just one flagship device at a time instead of focusing on multiple devices. This means the company is most likely working on its next flagship smartphone, the OnePlus 5.
However, in a statement to BGR India, the Chinese company confirmed that it “will continue providing OnePlus 3T 128 GB Gunmetal to the market in the future.” The Shenzhen-based company also confirmed that the 64GB storage model of the phone is still available and will continue to be available for those who want it. The 64GB OnePlus 3T can be bought in the United States for over $349, whereas in Europe, it can be purchased for €349.
“People who want to get the device (OnePlus 3T 128 GB Gunmetal) can wait for next wave of inventory. Currently, for Gunmetal lovers, they can still purchase 64GB ones now,” the company said.
However, the Midnight Black variant of the 128GB OnePlus 3T is never coming back, as it was a limited edition variant, and the Chinese company stated that it “has been sold out.”
It must be noted that the company’s website showed the OnePlus 3T 128 GB as “discontinued” until Tuesday. However, now the status of the 128GB OnePlus 3T variant has been changed from “discontinued” to “sold out.”
What to expect in the OnePlus 5
The OnePlus 3T came just six months after the hugely successful OnePlus 3. The OnePlus 3T is a little better than the OnePlus 3 even though they look similar. The former has a better front-facing camera, more powerful SoC, sapphire glass protection on top of its rear-facing camera, and a larger battery. In addition, the device — released as a mid-cycle upgrade to the OnePlus 3 — sports a 5.5-inch full-HD Optic AMOLED display, the Snapdragon 821 64-bit quad-core SoC and 6GB of RAM.
The Chinese company also recently confirmed the launch of the OnePlus 5 for this summer. The OnePlus 5 is expected to feature a 5.5-inch 2K Quad-HD display, 8GB of RAM, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC, and dual rear camera setup. The device is expected to come with a front-facing fingerprint scanner and introduce the new Dash Charge 2.0.
The device is expected to run on Android Nougat 7.1 with OxygenOS on top. In recent times, OnePlus has succeeded in making improvements to its Oxygen OS software with frequent updates. It will be interesting to see if the company raises the amount of available storage space and adds a 256GB version of the OnePlus 5.
