Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO)’s sites and services appear to be down for many. The Inquisitr questions whether the outage is the result of a hack or just standard, run-of-the-mill technical problems.
Yahoo “connection refused”
Many users are reporting outages with Yahoo’s home page, Yahoo Weather, Flickr and Yahoo Mail. (I was able to get Yahoo’s home page to work here, although a few minutes later I tried again and it wouldn’t load at all. Many Twitter users complained about the outage (because what better place to complain about another online service?).
Some sites like DownForEveryoneOrJustMe.com indicate that it does indeed look like there’s a problem with Yahoo. Is It Down Right Now does not show that there is a problem with Yahoo’s home page, although the site points to reports from more than 100 users who have reported issues “in the last few hours.” The outage appears to have begun around 1:25 p.m. Eastern, and service appears to be going in and out, according to Twitter users.
A spokesperson for Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO) responded to TechCrunch‘s request for a comment, saying, “Some sites are currently unavailable. We are aware and working to quickly resolve the issue.”
Yahoo, Google attacked last month
The Inquisitr reported last month that Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO) sustained a malware attack against thousands of its users. Also the site reported that email accounts on Yahoo were compromised last month as well. (Of course compromised Yahoo email accounts seem to be a nearly everyday thing, for many Yahoo users.)
The site also reports that this is “one of several times” Yahoo’s services have been down over the last month or so. However, Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) has also been technical glitches quite a bit recently, and few people accuse Google of being hacked. Just last month, Google’s Gmail and Google+ were hit with an outage.
