Rime, a puzzle game from Tequila Works, will debut on the Nintendo Switch on November 14 in North America and November 17 in Europe. The popular game has already been available on the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One since May.
Physical copy of Rime to cost $40
Nintendo Switch owners can download the game on the given dates for about $30, but those looking to buy a physical copy of the game will have to spend an extra $10. The extra is probably to cover the download codes for the game’s soundtrack by composer David García Díaz. Diaz’s playback sound is quite nice, with a mix of organ and electronic sounds that just goes in-line with the events in the game.
Initially, publisher GreyBox stated that the Switch version of the game would be available for $40. However, later after criticism, the decision was reversed, and price of the digital version was brought in-line with the prices on other platforms.
Rime revolves around a boy named Enu, who finds himself stranded on the shores of a mysterious island. Later on, he finds that his ship was wrecked and he was the only one to escape alive. Enu’s attire is perfectly done to match the theme of the gameplay. Enu does not speak, which is quite natural, given the fact that he is the lone survivor of the shipwreck. However, the game’s developers have made clever use of the lighting, shade and other visual clues to convey every bit once Enu solves the puzzle. Various clues, such as huge light beams, point to the area where the next puzzle is waiting to be solved. Further, the objects thrown around on the way are brightly colored and interactive.
New games for the Switch
Nintendo has been adding a slew of new titles to the Switch. Recently, a total of seven new games came to the console, and the biggest one is Retro City Rampage DX. Retro City Rampage is an open world action game, which is a mix of the parody of ’80s and ’90s games and of the original, top-down Grand Theft Auto titles. The game debuted on PC, PS3, and PS Vita five years ago and later came to the Xbox 360, Wii, PS4, 3DS, PSP, iOS, Android and so on, notes GameSpot.
The Nintendo Switch will also receive a region-free demo of Monster Hunter XX next week. The firmware has also been updated this week to resolve the battery issue and make a few performance tweaks and improvements.
Who is winning?
Since the Switch has launched, it has been compared to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One X. Until now, Sony has emerged as the winner based on sales numbers through June 30. However, in the past quarter, Sony shipped 3.3 million PS4 units, a drop from the 3.5 million shipped during the same period last year. Although Xbox has not released any official numbers, according to several reports, Microsoft has sold about 4 million units so far this year.
Nintendo so far has sold about 5 million units of the Switch, which launched in March. For now, the war seems to be in the favor of PlayStation, but the next few months wwill be critical in deciding which console wins.
