It’s been raining discounts on games and consoles this season, with big names such as Sony and Nintendo offering lucrative deals to gamers. Sony already slashed the price on hundreds of PlayStation titles, and Nintendo too is offering some rare discounts to its players. Joining them now is Microsoft with fresh Xbox One deals.
What are the new Xbox One deals?
The Xbox Ultimate Game Sale 2017, which started last week, was already offering deals on newer releases such as Doom ($42), Dark Souls III ($45), The Division ($40), Quantum Break ($45) and others. Among the older titles, Fallout 4 was available at a discount of $30, whereas Watch Dogs was discounted to $12. Xbox 360 games were also available at a discount; for instance, Red Dead Redemption is on sale for $7.50, WWE 2K16 is priced at $20 and so on.
Microsoft has now announced new Xbox One deals. The company is offering the 500 GB Minecraft Favorites Xbox One S bundle for $250, whereas the 500 GB Battlefield 1 Xbox One S bundle is available for only $270. The Battlefield bundle is available in white and grey consoles, whereas the Minecraft Favorites system is only available in white.
You can also get $10 off a three-month Xbox Live Gold membership and $10 off an Xbox One controller with the purchase of either console. In addition, until July 22, you can buy Halo Wars 2 and Gears of War 4 for only $20 each.
Microsoft announced last week that the Xbox One will support four games from the Halo franchise: Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, Halo 4 and Halo: CE Anniversary. The company is also set to release the 4K version of Halo 5 for the upcoming Xbox One X.
Why the Xbox One X is not called Project Scorpio
Despite the updates and lucrative Xbox One deals, fans are eagerly waiting for the Xbox One X, which will be launched later this year. From its name to its features, the Xbox One X has been in the news for quite some time. At the recent Electronic Entertainment Expo 2017, Microsoft officially revealed “Project Scorpio” as the Xbox One X.
Some fans, however, are not happy with the name, as they think it implies that it is not a next-generation console, but rather, just an upgrade of the Xbox One. Further, a lot of players want to know why the company dropped Scorpio from the name and went with Xbox One X instead, as Scorpio sounded much better.
Some of these questions were recently answered by Dave McCarthy, Xbox’s head of operations. During an interview with MCV, McCarthy stated that the company wanted to retain its root as the Xbox team, as the original Xbox was based on real technical innovation, opening up new possibilities for game developers and gamers.
“So it didn’t take us long to land on the X name. It spoke to us, it meant something in our history. So, as a team, we gravitated to the name pretty quickly. But I like Scorpio as a project code name as well,” the executive said.
