The Manual of Ideas:
The Proven Framework for Finding the Best Value Investments

The Manual of Ideas: Book Review

Today I am reviewing The Manual of Ideas: The Proven Framework for Finding the Best Value Investments. Read my other book reviews here.

John Mihaljevic publishes monthly research reports called The Manual of Ideas where he interviews fund managers and profiles investment ideas. I’ve enjoyed watching his video interviews, and so I was excited to hear that he had written a book.

In the book, also called The Manual of Ideas, Mihaljevic aggregates his key takeaways from hundreds of hours of fund manager interviews in order to create a compelling guide to the entire investment process, from idea generation through to execution. The book successfully covers the spectrum of approaches to value investing, each illustrated with concrete examples from the markets.

If you are new to value investing, this would be a good introductory text as Mihaljevic covers a lot of ground in just 337 pages. However, for those of you who have already read books like Greenwald’s Value Investing: From Graham to Buffett and Beyond, there’s only going to be a small amount of new material. Unfortunately, the market is replete with intro to value investing books like this and aspiring authors seem disinterested in writing about the finer points of valuation (like industry-specific analytical guides).

Overall, this is a quick, easy read and worth your time if you are new.

If you’ve read The Manual of Ideas, leave your thoughts below.
