In recent times the iOS jailbreak community has not had it so good. So imagine their excitement, when the surprise launch of the iOS 9.1 Pangu jailbreak was announced back in March. In a similar fashion to the original Pangu 9 jailbreak for iOS 9.0.x. This latest version was launched with no prior warning, nothing, it was a complete surprise.

However, this may be good news for some, but others are asking the question, what is the current condition of an iOS 9.3.1 and 9.3 jailbreak?

With its latest patch iOS 9.3.1, Apple has fixed the bug, which was effecting how links worked in iOS due to its previous update. And causing issues such as crashing devices whenever a link was clicked on in Safari and other apps. Yes, this is a big bonus for those that were suffering from the bug, but now that iOS 9.3.1 is available, will there a jailbreak for it?

iOS Security

With regard to security not much if anything has changed in this latest update compared to the previous iOS 9.3. Apple has not listed any new updates for iOS 9.3.1, so this means that whatever security issues there were in 9.3 should also be in this latest update. So if there was an exploit that worked in iOS 9.3 it will work in 9.3.1 too.

Possible Jailbreak

If you’re a regular follower of everything jailbreak, then you will know that the Italian developer Luca Tedesco has been working on a lot of iOS jailbreak stuff of late. Whilst doing so he successfully managed to jailbreak iOS 9.3 and then posted a video show it working on an iPhone, this was just after Apple released the first beta of iOS 9.3.

In the video, Luca Tedesco clearly shows that iOS 9.3 and possibly iOS 9.3.1 are both capable of being jailbroken. The problem however, for people also wanting to do this, he has so far refused to share his exploit and prefers to keep it private.

Chinese jailBreak Teams

So with nothing coming forward from the Italian, where does that leave the Jailbreak community? Well, all eyes have turned to the Chinese teams Pangu and TaiG. However, they normally do not provide updates before an iOS release and it has been this way for some time.

As things currently stand with iOS 9.3.1 available and a couple of new iOS devices the iPhone SE and iPad Pro available to buy it probably a sure thing that someone will cook something up at some point.

Should you Update iOS9?

If you’re still using iOS 9.3 you should certainly update, due to the horrible link bug that Apple has corrected with the latest update. Doing so in my opinion should not harm your chances of being able to jailbreak your handset in the future because remember earlier when I said essentially the one you have now and the new update are the same from a security perspective.

However, if you’re still on 9.2.1 and care about jailbreaking, I would advise you to stay where you are and keep your eyes peeled for any news of a potential jailbreak release.
