iPhone 6S Mini May Sport 4-Inch Display [REPORT]

Updated on

Already rumors about next year’s iPhone 6S are surfacing. This time, it’s a report from an analyst who suggests there might be a mini version of the phone, which would mean Apple’s return to the 4-inch smartphone market.

iPhone 6S Mini May Sport 4-Inch Display [REPORT]

iPhone 6S Mini coming with 4-inch screen?

Of course Apple does still sell the 4-inch iPhone 5S and 5C, but this year’s two new iPhones were larger than that. The iPhone 6 sports a 4.7-inch display, while the iPhone 6 Plus has a 5.5-inch display.

The suggestion about a 4-inch iPhone 6S comes from Cowen and Company analyst Timothy Arcuri, according to Apple Insider. He said Apple might actually release three new iPhones next year, including his suggested 4-inch iPhone 6S Mini.

In addition to rumors about next year’s iPhones, Arcuri also echoed another rumor that’s been circulating for some time. He said his supply chain checks suggest a 12.9-inch iPad is coming in the spring.

A mixed track record

As Apple Insider notes, Arcuri’s track record on reporting Apple rumors isn’t always the greatest. He cited unnamed sources for the information. He said his sources suggested that the iPhone 6S Mini might have specs that are similar to those of the iPhone 5S.

If those sources are correct, then it would be a similar strategy to what Apple did with the iPhone 5C in 2012. However, they also suggested that the iPhone 6S Mini might have a design that features a display with curved edges that looks more like the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus.

The analyst previously reported some details about the iPhone 6 in January 2014 that turned out to be correct. However, he also reported that the iPhone 6 Plus’ processor would be more power than the iPhone 6’s processor.

iPhone 6S Mini to replace iPhone 5C?

According to Arcuri, the iPhone 6S could have “purpose-built low cost components made by Qualcomm so that the cost of the phone can be kept down.

Apple has long been saying the smaller screen on its older iPhones offers an advantage over smartphones made by competitors. The company has emphasized the ability to control the phone with one hand. When Apple did go to the larger sizes this year, it revealed a feature it calls Reachability, which is meant to make it a bit easier to control the larger iPhone 6 and 6 Plus with one hand.
