Rumor Roundup: iPhone 6C From “Leaks”

Updated on

The following rumor roundup for the expected iPhone 6c means nothing, rather, it has been compiled from sources that have been right and wrong in the past and if an iPhone 6c is released it may not be named that at all.

Rumors, Rumors, Rumors iPhone 6c

Firstly, let me once again clarify that my credibility isn’t on the line here. There is zero guarantee that a single one of these will turn out to be the case.

That said, many believe that owing to a cut in production of the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus is due to the fact that many in emerging markets are Apple fans but just can’t afford these high-end phones. But many insiders, believe that Apple is ready to release a lower-end phone based on the iPhone 6. What it will even be called is a mystery if it is released at all. Some believe that it will be called an “iPhone 6S mini” or even “iPhone 7C” (ahead of the first iPhone 7, seems unlikely) how about “iPhone 5e” while we’re add it.

Let’s start with the display, I’m going with a inch-display as that’s where apple started with the iPhone 5. Let’s keep the pixels about there and say 1,136 x 640 which was also featured in the iPhone 5 models.

Nobody seemed to like the plastic covers re-introduced with the iPhone 5c, consequently I’m calling for an aluminum build in standard metal colors and no silly colors.

Since we’ve eliminated plastic covers, I’ll also eliminate straight 2D glass as not quite classy enough and make a call for 2.5D cover glass which Apple has used of its other incarnations of the iPhone 6 and it surely won’t used that sexy 3D curved glass used by Samsung in its flagship phones at present.

KGI analyst Mich-Chi Kuo is calling for an A9 chip and he’s been right a number of times in the past, so I’m sticking with his guess. I’ll add to that and say that it will also have an M9 motion co-processor.

In order to sell this at a price that will make Apple happy, it’s going to need to be fast. I and others are calling for 2G of RAM, as RAM goes down in price rapidly I’m cool with calling for the same amount as what the iPhone 6S is presently running and not a step back to the 1G of RAM found in early models/numbers.

More iPhone 5c Rumors, Why not?

The camera will not go backwards and will feature the same 8-megapixel iSight rear camera as the iPhone 6. Until the release of the iPhone 6, one of the major complaint about the iPhone was its camera and people just won’t buy that rubbish Apple once called a proper camera. Staying with that, they already have the specs so I expect it will also feature f/2.2 aperture, true tone flash, hybrid IR filter, five-element lens, backside illumination sensor, auto image stabilization, face detection, auto HDR, burst mode, panorama, geotagging, timer mode, 1080p video recording, and a bunch of other technical stuff I don’t appreciate.

And why not, by that reasoning, it will also come equipped with a 1.2-megapixel FaceTime HD camera when/if the iPhone 6c is released.

Internal storage for the iPhone 6c will start at 16G with a 32G model as well. iOS is a big operating system and anything less would see it rubbished in the press.

Apple didn’t include Touch ID with the iPhone 5c, but the iPhone 6c will have it, it’s become an expectation.

I’ve seen a photo of the “iPhone 6c” on a Lighting Dock, so we’ll say sure. And we’ll say that the iPhone 6c will have a bigger battery than the iPhone 5S. How about a 1,642 mAh battery, which would make it smaller than the larger screen iPhone 6S.

Lastly, I’ll say that it will have Apple Pay as Apple is paid for every transaction by merchants and I can’t see the company giving up that revenue stream.

And the verdict on the Apple 6c as described?

If the phone, as outlined above, is released you’ve got a really nice smartphone. I don’t love huge screen phones that barely fit in my pocket. The speed, camera, RAM and appearance makes this phone a winner to me. Hell, if I get eight of these ten predictions based on nothing but conjecture I would happily buy it.

But at what price? And that the real question at the end of the day, and the last prediction.

Free with a U.S. contract and $400 for an unlocked 16GB phone and $500 for the 32GB version. There you have it, oh, it will be unveiled in March with the Apple Watch 2.
