Apple retail stores are the best option in terms of inventory. However, they’re also the most crowded. At 6 a.m. this morning, Apple’s flagship store on 5th Avenue in New York was already more than 10 city blocks long.

Small carrier stores will have smaller crowds but also lower inventory levels. BGR suggests that mid-sized carrier stores or Best Buy Co Inc (NYSE:BBY) may be second after Apple stores in terms of likelihood that they’ll have enough iPhone 6s in stock.

Malls and shopping centers may be the best options among these. It’s not a bad idea to call ahead either, although it’s likely that you’ll be stuck on hold for quite some time, and there’s always a good chance that the stock will be gone before you get there.
