A video showing a demo of Cydia running on an iPhone with the iOS 9.3.4 jailbreak installed has been released. Apple rushed iOS 9.3.4 into release earlier this month in a bid to fix security flaws that the PanGu team was able to exploit to get the iOS 9.3.3 jailbreak to work. However, it has not taken long for the jailbreak community to free the firmware from Apple’s chains again.
A senior security researcher at Chinese retail giant Alibaba recently followed the path set out by Italian developer Luca Tedesco by creating and posting a video of Cydia installed on an iPhone running an iOS 9.3.4 jailbreak. Earlier this month, Tedesco, who is making a name for himself in security and research, publicly shared an image of Cydia running on an iOS 9.3.4 device. This made him the first person to have successfully jailbroken Apple’s iOS 9.3.4 firmware update.
Now it seems the second person in the world to do so is China’s Min Zheng.
Don’t get excited
At this point in the article, it is best that I mention that it’s not worth jailbreak fans getting excited, as there is nothing much known about the methods used to jailbreak iOS 9.3.4. Plus, if the past is anything to go by, these kinds of solutions are very rarely turned into working software which the general public can use.
There is good reason for developers who encounter possible exploits in Apple’s code not to publicly to release the information. Apple actively encourages developers/hackers via its bug bounty program to report vulnerabilities directly to it with the promise of a reward that can be up to a staggering $200,000. So with this in mind, the developers we see releasing pictures and videos could be working on these types of projects purely for a big Apple payday.
Fingers crossed
However, there does exist a small amount of hope that the intentions of the two developers mentioned in this article are good, and a working jailbreak solution for iOS 9.3.4 could be released at some point in the future before iOS 10 goes live on September 5. But with such a big payday lined up, this possibility is relatively unlikely,
Working iOS 9.3.4 jailbreak
So as it currently stands, nothing has really changed for jailbreakers, and the iOS 9.3.3 PanGu jailbreak is still the latest iOS firmware that has been jailbroken.
iPhone, iPad and iPod touch owners who prefer to keep their devices jailbroken are advised to stay clear of iOS 9.3.4 as Apple may suddenly stop signing the iOS 9.3.3 firmware. That means if you for some reason find yourself accidentally upgrading to iOS 9.3.4, you will no longer be able to use everything a jailbreak offers.
All that is left to be said is that if and when we find that anything new has been released, whether that be an image, video or real solution for iOS 9.3.4, we will share it with you.
