iOS 9.2 Jailbreak Coming Soon, Says TaiG Partner

Updated on

The cat and mouse game between Apple and the jailbreaking community has begun. The Chinese jailbreaking group Pangu released an iOS 9 jailbreak in October. But Apple rushed to patch the security loopholes that Pangu had exploited. That’s why there has been no untethered jailbreak for either iOS 9.1 or 9.2. Anyone who wants to keep enjoying the jailbreak must stick to the iOS 9.0.x instead of updating to 9.1 or 9.2.

3K Assistant is a long-time partner of TaiG

A jailbreak for the latest version of iOS could be out soon. Stephen Chan of Superphen reports that TaiG and 3K Assistant are working on a jailbreak and it will be out shortly. 3K Assistant, which has been working with TaiG for years, said in a Weibo post that they have achieved a breakthrough in the process of jailbreaking the iOS 9.2. It has since taken down the Weibo post.

However, the 3K Assistant team had published a post on Kuaiyong last Friday, saying the jailbreak is not complete yet. There is no expected time of arrival. So, users can do little except waiting for the jailbreak release. If you want to keep enjoying your liberated iOS device, do not upgrade to the 9.1 or 9.2. Those who have accidentally updated to the newest version can downgrade to iOS 9.0.2 while Apple has kept the signing window open.

Stick to iOS 9.0.2 for now

Redmond Pie reports that the signing window is not going to last long. So, downgrade to iOS 9.0.2 at the earliest. If your phone runs an older version, upgrade to the 9.0.2 while it’s still possible. Since Apple has patched the jailbreak vulnerabilities exploited by Pangu, hackers will have to identify new jailbreaking solutions. There have been rumors that Pangu has also been working on an iOS 9.1/9.2 jailbreak.

There is indeed a browser-based untethered jailbreak for the iOS 9.1/9.2, but it won’t be available to the public. Zerodium says a hack for which it paid $1 million bounty can jailbreak both 9.1 and beta version of 9.2. But Zerodium makes this hack available only to select clients.
