Right now, it seems like all eyes are on Apple. They have a big launch event coming up in less than a week where we expect to see the much-anticipated iPhone X alongside other goodies like a new Apple TV and a refreshed Apple Watch. However, another tech giant has a big release coming up this fall and we just got a look at a new leak.
This new Google Pixel 2 leak was posted on 9 to 5 Google and it shows a very clear image of the Pixel 2 design. Much of the image has been blurred to protect the identity of the website that leaked the information but you still get a great look at the shape and design of the Pixel 2. This Google Pixel 2 leak seems to be in line with a lot of other leaks and rumors we have seen about the upcoming device. Take a look for yourself and then we can discuss:
As you can see, this appears to confirm the latest rumors that the Google Pixel 2 will feature a similar design to last year with larger bezels. The rear of the device appears to have changed slightly but nothing too shocking. Just some small differences from last year’s model.
Gates Capital Management's ECF Value Funds have a fantastic track record. The funds (full-name Excess Cash Flow Value Funds), which invest in an event-driven equity and credit strategy, have produced a 12.6% annualised return over the past 26 years. The funds added 7.7% overall in the second half of 2022, outperforming the 3.4% return for Read More
Along with this Google Pixel 2 leak, some additional details have been confirmed using other images and rumors that were not shared. For one, it sounds like the 3.5mm headphone jack is dead for sure. But don’t worry – Google will be offering a USB Type-C to 3.5mm dongle inside the box! Google took shots at Apple for doing this last year but now they apparently love the idea so much they will implement it into their own upcoming devices.
In regards to headphones, it sounds like there may be Google Assistant-powered headphones coming. So… I guess they will be like EarPods but from Google? In case all of the sarcasm I’ve crammed into the last few lines hasn’t made it clear: I’m not a fan of companies removing standard features. I especially don’t like it when said company criticizes another company for doing something and then goes ahead and does that thing themselves just one year later. But enough about 3.5mm headphone ports! There’s still more to this Google Pixel 2 leak.
The storage configurations for the Pixel 2 have been confirmed by the source of the images. Apparently there will be 64GB and 128GB models available. A 64GB base model is a nice jump from the 32GB we got last year and is right in line with what we are seeing from some other flagships in 2017. That’s definitely a step forward for the Pixel 2.
In keeping with earlier reports; it does appear that the Pixel 2 price will be slightly higher than what we saw last year. We will have to wait to see just how high the price will come in at. I would expect the Pixel 2 XL to be priced similarly to the iPhone X or maybe just a little lower. This likely means we are looking at around $900 for the Pixel 2 XL.
Thought the Google Pixel 2 leak train had stopped? Not just yet.
One advantage of losing the headphone port is that the device is easier to water and dust proof. There are suggestions that the Pixel 2 will come with an IP68 water and dust proof rating. That should be good news to those of you who have been known to let your smartphone take a dive every now and then.
Finally, this Google Pixel 2 leak claims to show the always-on display in action. Obviously a lot of information has been blurred but you get the idea. Google’s ambient display will show information like alarms and notifications so you can check with a glance instead of unlocking your device. However, for those of you concerned about battery life, Google has included a toggle to turn off the ambient display feature, Everyone should be happy with that. It’s a new feature that you can choose to use if you want it.
So, when will we get to see more of the Pixel 2? Well, as the launch date gets closer I’m sure there will be a lot more leaks and rumors that make their way onto the internet. As for an official look; the Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL are expected to launch on October 5th with sales beginning shortly thereafter. Until then, leaks like this Google Pixel 2 leak will have to tide you over.
What do you think about this latest information? Are you any more or less likely to buy a Pixel 2 based on what you have seen so far? The loss of the headphone port is a tough pill to swallow but Google does look to be packing in a lot of new features that may help us forget about our beloved 3.5mm headphone port. Plus, who needs 3.5mm headphone ports when you have dongles? Right?
