Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) has just launched its Blink browser engine, much to the excitement of its Chrome team.
The WebKit fork is a new engine for Chrome, and other companies like Opera Software are already hopping on board with Blink, according to The Register. Opera Software announced just weeks ago that it would get rid of the Presto engine it designed to use WebKit, and has decided to now use Blink instead.
Google uers are apparently ecstatic about Blink. Adam Barth, a software engineer at the search giant, said that they believe that having more than one rendering engine will “spur innovation” and “improve the health of the entire open web ecosystem.”
Many software engineers at Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) believe in order for browser platforms to become better, the rendering engine must work faster, and they said Blink does exactly that. CNET reports that Blink is very similar to the WebKit rendering engine, except that it’s faster and stronger.
Security experts at Google believe Blink will enable them to correct some technical security concerns that have existed with Chrome. The changes are apparently things that wouldn’t work in WebKit because they would impact other platforms too much. However, by breaking Blink off from WebKit, Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) is now free to do what it wants and needs to do in order to keep Chrome in top working order.
Some software engineers in the industry were concerned about a loss of diversity in the Internet after Opera’s Presto engine was retired, but the addition of Google’s blink engine will provide that needed diversity.
