Gamers Expect PlayStation 5, Xbox Two To Arrive Sooner

Updated on

Before Sony’s PlayStation 4 and Microsoft’s Xbox One arrived in November 2013, the previous generation of gaming consoles enjoyed a long run of 8 years. But the current generation of consoles is unlikely to have a lengthy run as gamers are already looking forward to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Two. MoviePilot reports that many gamers have been reluctant to jump to PS4 or Xbox One.

Xbox Two is in the works

Sony and Microsoft’s now two-year-old consoles did not have the same draw factor as their predecessors. Though the PS4 did a decent business, Xbox sales were so weak that Microsoft had to cut its price. At the end of 2014, there were not many exclusive games that were worth the upgrade. The slow release of captivating games and lack of performance are the reasons fans are looking forward to the next-gen consoles.

Last month, Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox at Microsoft, confirmed that the Xbox Two was in the works. Early rumors suggest that Microsoft may turn to cloud storage with the next-generation of its consoles. The Redmond-based software giant already has expertise in cloud and software. A major improvement that gaming enthusiasts expect in Xbox Two is high-quality graphics hardware. The current console generation is proof that Microsoft still lags behind Sony in this area.

PlayStation 5 may arrive in 2017 or 2018

Other rumored features of Xbox Two include 4K resolution and virtual reality gaming. Sony is certain to release a PlayStation 5. A job posting by Sony last year suggested that the company was hiring game developers for its “next generation gaming system.” At this point, it is unclear how far Sony’s development team has progressed. Rumors claim that the PlayStation 5 development is still in early stages.

The PS5 is expected to run on AMD’s chipset and may feature a disc-less system. Sony already has a virtual reality headset called Project Morpheus, so we can expect VR to be implemented in PS5. Neither Sony nor Microsoft has revealed the features or launch dates of their respective next-gen consoles. But PS5 is rumored to be released as early as 2017 or 2018. Besides virtual reality, PlayStation 5 is also expected to boast of 4K resolution.
