Galaxy S8 To Sport 30MP Camera, Mini Projector [RUMOR]

Updated on

Amid speculations that Samsung could go for an early release of the Galaxy S8 following Galaxy Note 7 battery debacle, the rumor mill has started churning out more details about the upcoming device. If a new rumor coming out of China is to be believed, Samsung’s next-gen flagship smartphone could feature an impressive 30MP main camera, a huge 4,200mAh battery, a 9MP front-facing camera, wireless charging, and a mini projector.

Expect 4K display

The rumor was posted by Weibo user KJuma and first spotted by Tech Updates. According to the leaked screenshot, the new device will have 5th generation Corning Gorilla Glass, fingerprint scanner, retina scanner, and rapid charging capabilities. It will be available in 64GB and 128GB built-in storage options, which can be further expanded using microSD cards.

The leak claims that the Galaxy S8 would sport a 4K display with 2160 x 4096 resolution. A 4K display has long been rumored for Samsung’s next-gen flagship smartphone, as it will focus heavily on virtual reality. Some of the features mentioned in the Weibo post are believable, but many of them are outright weird.

Galaxy S8 unlikely to sport a 30MP camera

For instance, Samsung and other vendors are trying to increase the image quality, especially in low-light conditions, instead of increasing the megapixel count. Recent rumors suggest that the Galaxy S8 would have a dual-camera setup – a 12MP and a 13MP snapper – on the back. Samsung is unlikely to include a 30MP camera in S8. A built-in projector is quite possible, but such a feature may not excite users beyond the business class.

The Weibo posting says the S8 will be powered by 6GB RAM and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 830 with 3.2GHz clock speed. However, a recent leak by a Samsung executive suggests it will feature Exynos 8895 chipset with Mali-G71 GPU. Samsung may launch two versions of its flagship device – one powered by Exynos and another running Snapdragon 830.
