The latest news reveals that the Galaxy S5 might sport a diamond metal surface. According to the reports, the R&D department of Samsung is testing a new material for the metal body for the upcoming Galaxy S5, says a report from ET News.

Galaxy S5 may have diamond metal surface
Though the phone would have a diamond metal surface, the company will definitely not use real diamonds as it will increase the cost of the device. Instead, a synthetic diamond material would be used by processing carbon with high temperatures and pressures.
The case of the Galaxy S5 would be less prone to scratches after the “diamond-like” material is coated. Also, Samsung would adopt this technology to outpace rival iPhone, which is reportedly using sapphire technology for the next generation of devices.
According to reports, it is difficult to integrate such technology in the phones as the Galaxy S5 would be launched in the upcoming Mobile World Congress making it too early to integrate such complicated technology in a phone. So it is less likely that the upcoming Galaxy S5 would have a diamond-like shell.
Curved display may not feature in Galaxy S5
The industry sources revealed that Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (LON:BC94) (KRX:005930) may not include a curved display in its upcoming Samsung Galaxy S5 due to difficulties in producing enough curved displays and high cost. At present, Samsung Galaxy Round as well as LG G Flex are two devices with curved displays.
It was expected that Samsung would come out with curved display technology in its upcoming phone, but now reports suggests that the development is still in the early phase, and it is not viable to bring the technology in the Galaxy S5, which is expected to sell tens of millions of units.
Kim Jong-hyun, an analyst at Seoul-based Eugene Investment & Securities, said that the current capacity for flexible panels is not high enough for the Galaxy S5, which will be rolled out early next year.

Youm uses OLED light sources within its flexible components. A report from a Korean website noted that Samsung may deploy the Exynos 6 processor, a new 14nm chip with 64 bit support and ARM’s cortex A53/A57 BigLittle octa-core configuration in the Galaxy S5. Other expected features include at least 3GB of RAM, though the company is already producing 4GB LPDDR3 mobile DRAM.
The Galaxy S5 is expected to have a 2K display and an Iris scanner. Samsung Galaxy S5 may be powered by 2.5 GHZ quad-core snapdragon 800 processor. Reports suggest that the phone would have 1080 p display rather than 2K display. As of now, Samsung has not revealed any features officially.
Other features rumored for the Samsung Galaxy S5 are eye scanning technology, which would supposedly outpace the biometric security of iPhone 5S that has fingerprint sensor security. With eye scanning technology Samsung would try to create an edge over Apple in the security field.
Rumors surrounding camera
Samsung Galaxy S5 would supposedly have 13 megapixel cameras with optical image stabilization, but different reports have surfaced that claim altogether different camera specifications. In a report from ET news, it was noted that the company would have 16 megapixel sensors, which will produce some high effect photos even in low light. Samsung is expected to produce these sensors in house and will feature Samsung ISOCELL technology, which would increase the light sensitivity and will control the absorption of electrons and give high color fidelity even in less light.
Some reports also indicate that Samsung is facing issues in getting a smooth supply of components, which is affecting the image stabilization. The company did not sport optical image stabilization in the Galaxy Note 3 due to a shortage of the modules.
Features that could make Galaxy S5 more appealing
A patent posted by the GalaxyClub.nl revealed that Samsung would also upgrade its ChatON messaging service to include multi-person conference calls. Through the integration of the new patent, both front and rear camera could be used for conferencing. The technology sounds similar to Google (NASDAQ:GOOG)’s conference call system available through Hangouts, which can stream ten different feeds together.
It is expected that the Samsung Galaxy S5 would have better software specification as the differentiation between hardware has become negligible among smartphones. New updates would be available for the Galaxy S5 faster than other flagships. Samsung has been following the trend of bringing the new updates in the latest flagships first.
