When I decided to write Winners Dream: A Journey from Corner Store to Corner Office, I was not sure what to expect from the process. I had grown many businesses, but never written a book.

There also were reasons for me to hold off telling my career story. I was a busy CEO of a global corporation. Certainly I’d have more time to ruminate—and more experiences to ruminate about—if I waited another twenty years. I asked myself if I being premature.

But something inside of me said, “Go.” So I went.

I selected a writing partner, and four decades of stories spilled out of me: Being an entrepreneur in the seventies. Selling during the eighties. Leading through the Internet boom and bust. Surviving The Great Recession.

About the Author

Bill McDermott is the CEO of SAP, the world’s largest business software company. Before joining SAP in 2002, McDermott served as executive vice president of Worldwide Sales and Operations at Siebel Systems and president of Gartner, Inc., where he led the company’s core operations. He spent seventeen years at Xerox Corporation, where he rose from a sales professional to become the company’s youngest corporate officer and division president. McDermott holds an MBA in business management from the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University and he completed the Executive Development Program at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
