BlackBerry has been facing tough times over the past few years with its smartphone sales declining and market share reducing to drastically low levels. The Canadian company has not given up hope as yet and is coming up with new devices. BlackBerry could soon release a new device named Venice, which is expected to be the first device from BlackBerry to run on the Android OS.
BlackBerry Venice coming soon
BlackBerry showcased the new flagship device codenamed Venice at the Mobile World Congress 2015. The slider smartphone with dual curved-edge display was believed by many to run on Android. Details about the expected features of the device have been making the rounds for quite some time now, and it is expected that the company could unveil the device anytime this year. We already know the device is rumored to be launching on AT&T, but now the latest rumors point towards its availability on T-Mobile as well.
The information comes from Evan Blass, who is known for leaking news about upcoming smartphones on his Twitter profile. However, Blass has not provided any other details, including the expected time of arrival. As per earlier rumors and the leaks, the device could be launched by the Canadian company sometime around November and is said to have hardware that is fairly high-ended.
Android or BB or both
Th BlackBerry Venice device will carry a sliding physical keyboard with the QWERTY keypad that is widely popular with ardent BlackBerry fans. It is expected to have a 5.4-inch Quad HD (2560×1440) display and curved edges on both sides, as suggested by leaks. The primary camera is said to be 18MP with features like face detection auto-focus, while the front camera for taking selfies and making video calls is reportedly 5MP. The BlackBerry Venice could come with 3GB of RAM and run on the powerful Snapdragon 808 chipset from Qualcomm.
Previously, there were rumors that the device would run the BB OS 10, while more recent rumors suggest the device will run on the Android OS. Speculations are that the device could be available in two different variants – one that runs on Android and another one running on BB OS 10.
