ZenFone 5 Update Didn’t Fix PUBG HD Graphics And Triggers Audio Issue

Updated on

One major issue Asus ZenFone 5 users have been facing since updating to Android Pie was with the HD graphics in PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG). Although an update rolled out last week was supposed to fix the PUBG HD graphics issue on the ZenFone 5, it appears users are still facing the problem.

PUBG HD graphics issue on ZenFone 5 not yet fixed

Asus pushed out an update last week (version 16.0615.1905.100), and the changelog states that it addresses the PUBG HD graphics issue on the ZenFone 5. However, many users who installed the latest update claim they are still facing the PUBG HD graphics issue on the ZenFone 5, according to tech site PiunikaWeb.

“I have zenfone 5 full updated [sic] but i cant [sic] play hd graphics.how can i fix.i [sic] played before Android 9,” one user complained on Asus’ forum.

When playing PUBG, users still see a dialogue box saying this option is not yet available on their device. Users say they have tried ininstalling and reinstalling the game, but the issue remains.

Users have been facing the PUBG HD graphics issue on the ZenFone 5 since updating to Android 9.0 Pie.

“So  since I update [sic] my Zenfone 5 from  Oreo to Pie ,  a lot of issues  are appeared [sic] .   One of them is  optimization of graphical settings are not working properly as before .   I mean for instance  ;  I cannot play Pubg Mobile  in high and hd graphical quality as I did in the [sic] Oreo,” one user said earlier this year.

This comes as a big disappointment because the issue still exists even after five months. What’s even more frustrating for users is that when the update finally arrived, it failed to fix the issue for them, even though a similar issue on another Asus model, the ZenFone Max Pro M1, was fixed recently.

As of now there are no comments from Asus on the latest development, but a ZenTalk forum moderator has assured users that the problem is being looked into.

“The HD problem, this problem is under investigation. We’ll get back to you if there’s anything coming up,” the moderator said yesterday.

Poweramp audio issue on ZenFone 5

Asus’ latest update for the ZenFone 5 appears to be broken because it not only failed to fix the PUBG issue but also triggered a new audio issue for some users, which was spotted by PiunikaWeb. Affected users say they are now experiencing audio issues when using the Poweramp music player app.

“Is it just me ? After i [sic] update to the latest firmware i experience audio distortion when im [sic] using poweramp… What the heck [sic] it sounds really terrible,” one user said.

Some users added that the Poweramp audio issue on the ZenFone 5 appears only when playing the audio at mid volume and not in full volume. One user experienced a similar issue with another audio player, the onkyo hf player, and YouTube.

It must be noted that the changelog for the latest update says that it fixes the audio issue with a third-party app. However, it appears to have triggered audio issue for another third-party app. Forum moderators were quick to acknowledge the issue and assured users that the Poweramp audio issue on the ZenFone 5 is “under processing in a proactive way.” Moderators also shared a workaround until the issue is resolved.

“Please see below steps for the short-term solution until the fix plan. Steps: Turn on the Poweramp > menu> settings> audio > advanced tweaks> turn off the option of “Direct Volume Countro,” the moderator said.

Thus, users facing the Poweramp audio issue on the ZenFone 5 can use this trick until the issue is resolved permanently. However, those facing the PUBG HD graphics issue on the ZenFone 5 will have to wait longer. There are no workarounds for this issue.

Specs and features of the Zenfone 5

Asus’ Zenfone 5 features a 6.2-inch display with an aspect ratio of 19:9, but it has the same physical footprint as the 5.5-inch Zenfone 4, thanks to the thin bezel and the 90% screen-to-body ratio. Even though Asus used an LCD in the Zenfone 5, the display performance is not much behind an OLED display.

In addition to the impressive display, the phone boasts some new smart features, such as automatic adjustment for color temperature (similar to True Tone on the iPhone X) and a sensor that keeps the screen on while you are looking at it.

The Zenfone 4 is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 636. The maximum onboard storage available is 64 GB, while the RAM options are 4 GB and 6 GB. The handset weighs 155 grams and is easily usable with one hand. For security, it has face unlock and a fingerprint sensor.
