Apple iPad Air 2 Event Set For October 16

Updated on

There have been rumors that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) will unveil new iPads in October for months, and now, we have our first confirmation—of sorts. Re/code reports that Apple is planning an iPad Air 2 event for Oct. 16.

iPad event allegedly revealed

Previously, we heard that Apple would unveil the next iPad models on Oct. 21, but now, Re/code says its sources said the date is Oct. 16 instead. Along with the new iPads, Apple could show off the new iMacs we’ve been hearing about for some time. The company could show off OS X Yosemite as well.

It seems like Apple will hold a scaled-back event this time around since the company held such a major event in September to show off the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and Apple Watch. According to Re/code’s sources, the event will be held at Apple’s Town Hall Auditorium at its headquarters in Cupertino, Calif.

Unlike the iPhone event, there probably won’t be any strange white structures being erected or U2 performance.

Expectations for the iPad Air 2

Apple is expected to update the iPad Air and the iPad Mini with Retina display. Both will probably incremental updates without a lot of surprises. Huffington Post offers some speculations about the iPad Air 2.

The tablet is expected to run on the A8 processor that’s in the iPhone 6 and have the Touch ID fingerprint scanner. Apple could also make the display curve a little more like it does on the iPhone 6, which would improve viewing it from different angles.

We’ve also heard that Apple will introduce a gold-colored iPad Air this year as well.

iPad Pro Rumors

And then there are the rumors about the iPad Pro, which is supposedly going to be a 12.9-inch version of the iPad. It could be some sort of hybrid device, which would make sense given the large size. MacWorld provided an update this week on the iPad Pro rumors.

The iPad Pro will supposedly sport an A8X processor, which would be an upgrade from the A8 processor that’s in the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus and that’s expected to be in the iPad Air 2. It’s also rumored that the laptop-tablet hybrid will have 2K and 4K screen options and possibly be available early next year.
