Apple Inc. (AAPL) To Fix iOS 7 Crashing Issue

Updated on

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has finally broken its silence over the “white/black screen of death” in iOS 7. The tech giant told Mashable Wednesday that it is working to fix the glitch that causes iPhones to crash and restart during normal use for no apparent reason. Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) bet big when it released the completely revamped operating system in September last year.

Users express their irritation in Apple discussion forum

iOS 7 received mostly positive reviews upon release, and more than 200 million users upgraded the operating system in just a few days. But bugs in the iCloud, iMessage and many other features have crippled iOS 7. Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) had maintained silence on the crash issue since its release. Though the Cupertino-based company didn’t provide a timeline, the fix is likely to be included in the upcoming software update. Owners of the affected devices see an unexpected and random reboot sequence. What causes the crash it still unclear. But many users have said the crash is more frequent when the power level drops below 30%.

The iOS 7 problem has been dubbed as the “white/black screen of death” because the iPhones with white faces show a white screen with black Apple logo, and devices with black faces show the inverse. The first reports of the issue popped up in September on Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s official discussion forum thread that has about 90,000 views and 249 comments. Later, the glitch also appeared on various social networks.

Apple to make some design and UI changes in iOS 7.1

The update is rumored to come with iOS 7.1, which is in the fourth beta testing stage with developers. Beta testers said iOS 7.1 will be much more stable and less prone to crashes. Along with a fix to the crash issue, it is also likely to include some design and UI changes like a modified “Clear” button on the notification screen, and a new button for iTunes Radio.

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) stock inched up 0.30% in pre-market trading Thursday to $553.15.
