This week Anonymous attacked the Vatican’s website; they tried to attack it last year but failed. The attack came after one of their partners from LulzSec was arrested. Additionally, Jeremy Hammond alias “Anarchaos” an identified member of Anonymous was arrested in Chicago, Illinois.
LulzSec members arrested were: Darren Martyn, alias “pwnsauce”, Donncha O’Cearrbhail, alias “palladium” Ryan Ackroyd, alias “Kayla” and Jake Davis, alias “Topiary”.
When the group attacked the Vatican’s website they stated in Italian the reason for the hackt: “Anonymous decided today to besiege your site in response to the doctrine, to the liturgies, to the absurd and anachronistic concepts that your for-profit organisation spreads around the world,” “This attack is not against the Christian religion or the faithful around the world but against the corrupt Roman Apostolic Church”.
Yesterday evening, as a response to the arrests Anonymous decided to leak sensitive Symantec Norton Antivirus information.
Anonymous claimed to have the information for a while but they finally published it on The website Pirate Bay. The information is a source code for the Symantec Norton Antivirus 2006 edition,which includes files that serve as a source code for software products like the corporate edition, the consumer version, and files for NetWare, Windows and Unix. The download file is 1.07GB. The file has a note that asks for the liberation of the LulzSec members that were arrested.
Symantec the anti-virus and Security Company previously stated that the breach will “not affect any current Norton product”. Then added: “The current version of Norton Utilities has been completely rebuilt and shares no common code with Norton Utilities 2006. The code that has been posted for the 2006 version poses no security threat to users of the current version of Norton Utilities.”
