A great deal has been written about Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) in the last couple of months. The company has been the most exciting equities on the market in the first half of the year, and the environmentally conscious among us are excited about the changes it might bring to energy consumption. There is more to Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) however, and the auto maker might just change the entire country for the better. Here’s why:
Tesla Motors will reduce Foreign Oil Consumption:
Oil is probably the most important resource in the United States. Though domestic production is increasing, the US still imports a massive amount of oil from around the world. The necessity of those imports leads the United States to military conflict in countries like Syria and Iraq, costing billions of dollars and the lives of US citizens.

In conjunction with increased domestic oil production, Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) will reduce the amount of oil consumed in the United States. Every Tesla Model S is one bloated oil hungry luxury car off of the market. If Tesla manages to transition to mass market, the changes will be even more drastic.
Tesla Motors will allow the United States to lead on Climate Issues:
When it comes to climate issues, the United States has no ground to stand on right now. Despite being one of the world’s biggest producers of greenhouse gases, the country did not ratify the Kyoto protocol. Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) and the country’s growing solar industry give the world’s most powerful country a moral ground to argue for emission reductions and hopefully the data to back them up.
Tesla Motors is an argument for Good Government Intervention:
Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) is not proof that the free market can solve climate issues. The company did not, and still does not, work on a free market basis. Most of its profit is made up of subsidies from the federal government, and the government of California.
Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) can form a perfect argument for good government intervention. The company took advantage of a special DOE loan, and subsidies offered by the government to attract market interest to an area they thought economically and strategically necessary. Good government intervention is a beautiful thing. Tesla is the perfect poster boy.
Tesla Motors Inspires Others:
Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) attracts a huge amount of investors from graduate schools, engineers and scientists. The company has inspired a new generation to invest, not only for return but because they believe in the product. The company has also shown that powerful solutions can be successful, and they can change the world.
None of these points require Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) to still be around in ten years, all they need is for electric vehicles to become a real choice for American consumers. In dealing with trade offs, issues often come down to neither side wanting to give something up to get what they want. Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) has changed this in the car market because in economic at least, technology is good for everyone.
