Tesla Motors Inc (TSLA) Model S Driverless Car [CONCEPT]

Updated on

Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA)’s Model S sedan is by far a brilliant technological achievement. The Elon Musk-led company is working on a self-driving car that can let you kick back and relax while you are traveling. Earlier this month, reports surfaced that Tesla has partnered with an Israeli firm for a driverless cars. Based on the Model S, Swiss automobile customizer Rinspeed has come up with a concept car, XchangE, that offers a truly autonomous driving experience. The concept car will be showcased at the Geneva Motor Show in March.

Rinspeed’s version of Tesla autonomous car is simply superb

The Rinspeed’s version of Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) car puts forth a simple question: why should you pay attention to the road on the daily commute? The XchangE is designed to be a living room, office, car and urban space, everything packed into one package that makes driving stress-free. Rinspeed founder Frank Rinderknecht said that while traveling in an autonomous car, you will be able to spend your time in more meaningful ways than staring at the road.

The all-electric XchangE sedan has seats that can swivel, tilt and slide in 20 different ways. That’s possible because you can move the steering panel to the middle of the instrument panel along with the lightweight instrument column. Rinspeed said passengers can take almost any resting or seating position while traveling. The concept car has a top speed of 124mph, and a range of 300 miles. It also has an espresso machine inside.

Since the steering wheel can be moved, the passengers and driver can have access to extra leg room, cushions and display screens. The XchangE has four different screens to offer information and entertainment. What’s more, a 32-inch 4K display in the rear turns the car into an on-demand movie theater, which can be controlled with simple gestures.

Difference between Tesla Model S and XchangE

Though the interior of the concept car is wildly different from Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA)’s Model S, Rinspeed has kept the same exterior. One notable difference between the Tesla sedan and the XchangE is the roof. The concept car’s roof has a coating by Evonik Industries that helps keep the car cool inside. Rinspeed said the XchangE has cloud-based infotainment features.

Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) shares surged 0.97% to $212 in pre-market trading Friday.
