Tesla Confirms Model X Arrival For Early 2015

Updated on

Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) reaffirmed that Model X will arrive early next year in a letter to customers earlier this month. This confirmation essentially echoed Elon Musk’s similar comments where he mentioned the crossover will feature the iconic falcon wing doors in the production model.

Key feature for Tesla Model X is falcon wing doors

The doors will also be paired with sensors as an effort to prevent the doors from being struck by nearby objects. The status update proclaimed the doors not only look amazing, but are also easier to get in. Model X will also feature an all-wheel drive system as well as optional third row seating.

The upcoming car won’t look exactly like the Model X that was unveiled in 2012. That car was essentially a concept design; it was shown with side mirrors, which is actually a government safety code violation. The final prototypes for Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA)’s Model X will start rolling off the assembly line later this fall. When the car model was unveiled, Tesla rang up over $40 million in orders, however, the company has yet to disclose the number of reservations.

The dollar amount of customer deposits for Model S and Model X reached a total of $198 million as of late March. That number is up from 21% last year.

Tesla’s new car marketed to families

Earlier this month, it was announced Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) would release the Model X in the early spring of 2015. Unlike the Model S, which was designed specifically for car fans, this car is geared towards mothers and families. This crossover vehicle is actually very roomy. It was made with lightweight body panels to keep it on the slim side, however, the battery packs and motors make it a little heavier than you might expect. This car also has plush interiors and two storage trunks, which make it cozy and spacious.

Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) is still making significant improvements to their Model S. Some of these improvements will even come to current Model S owners in the form of software that helps learn the habits of the driver and makes adjustments. There will also be a navigation system that gives drivers directions and locations to help drivers stay away from traffic jams.
