The number of Americans receiving assistance from the Supplementary Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), more commonly known as food stamps, increased 0.23% in October, the U.S. Department of Agriculture reports. This follows a 0.75% decrease in participation in September.
47.416 million people participated in the program in October compared to 47.306 million in September, which means that SNAP participants increased by 110k people during the month.
The average monthly benefit received per person in October was $134.05, up from $133.20 in September. This means that the total cost of the SNAP program in October was $6.356 billion.
