Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Price: The South Korean Firm’s Most Expensive?

Updated on

When it comes to phablets, Samsung is the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world. However, with the abject failure of last year’s Note 7, the company is under pressure to reinvigorate its big phone lineup. As such, rumors about the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 price and features are so widespread that there is confusion among fans. In this article, we’re going to take a look at its price.

Evan Blass said recently on VentureBeat that Samsung is getting ready to announce its latest phablet. Blass, if you don’t know, is something of a serial rumor-monger, using his @evleaks Twitter account to spread the word about inside information he hears.

According to him, he’s spoken to someone who has inside knowledge of the South Korean giant’s plans. He/she apparently suggested that the first workable Galaxy Note since the Note 5 launched in 2015 is likely to be the most expensive. How could Samsung justify that? Let’s take a look at what the rumor mill is saying about the device today.

Possible specs and features of the Note 8

The current consensus on the size of the display has the AMOLED screen at 6.3 inches with an aspect ratio of 18.5:9. If that sounds familiar, it’s because it’s the same as the two Galaxy S8 handsets released earlier this year. It means that for the first time, Samsung isn’t using the Note’s screen size as a way to make it stand out.

Instead, according to the person who spoke to Evan Blass, it’s the phone’s specs that will make the difference. If that’s true, maybe holding off on purchasing an S8 Plus is a good idea. After all, why buy an inferior device when you may be able to get a much better device very soon for not much more?

In addition to a large display and an S-Pen, it’s thought that like the two S8 models, the Galaxy Note 8 will run on either the Snapdragon 835 or Exynos 8895 chipset. Maybe that’s what is pushing the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 price higher. Or perhaps, the phablet will have 6GB of RAM, making it only the second Samsung handset to have that much RAM.

That said, it could be down to yet another first for the South Korean firm. A dual-lens camera is set to make an appearance on the rear of the handset, apparently with twin 12-megapixel sensors. The sensors are said to be lined up horizontally, with each supposedly sporting independent optical image stabilization. Additionally, the phone is expected to have a flash and heart rate sensor.

What about the fingerprint sensor?

Just last week, we reported on various technical reasons that may keep the Note 8 from getting a fingerprint sensor that’s embedded in the display. This week, VentureBeat reported that due to Evan Blass’ conversation with the Samsung insider, it can be expected that the Note 8 will indeed not get that tech. Instead, the fingerprint sensor is expected to be placed on the rear of the phablet, just as it is on the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus.

According to Blass, the fingerprint sensor is again on the same plane as the controversial S8 setup. However, it appears that this time, there is a greater distance between the fingerprint sensor and camera lens. Hopefully, this will lead to less camera smudging than we’ve heard about on the company’s current flagships.

What about the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 price?

So the rumors now indicate that the next Note will have almost the same screen size, the same chipset, almost the same fingerprint sensor setup, and possibly the same OS. We seriously doubt that Samsung will increase the price if the only upgrade is 6GB of RAM. If the company is planning to raise the price, there must be something about it that we don’t know.

You could get to see this handset as early as late August or early September; we will let you know. According to the insider Evan Blass spoke to, in the U.S., the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 price could be as high as $1,000 after taxes. In Europe, it could be slightly higher than €1,000 after taxes. Consumers in the U.K. could also be expected to pay an exorbitant price, maybe in the region of £899.

As always, when we find out more, we will let you know. In the meantime, let us know what you think about the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 price.
