Updated on

Samsung, it appears, is determined to expand its budget lineup, and thus, it has been launching handsets under its J series. Now it appears there is one more handset in the pipeline under the same series: the Galaxy J2 (2016).

Samsung Galaxy J2 (2016) to run on Android 6.0.1

Recently, the Samsung Galaxy J2 (2016) was spotted on a benchmarking listing. The leaked Antutu Benchmarking screenshot (spotted by Priceraja.com) reveals that the new handset will be based on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. The device will come with a 5MP front camera and an 8MP rear camera. The new Samsung handset will have a 5-inch screen and a 720 x 1280 resolution, the leak reveals.

Previously, a GeekBench listing revealed a phone with the same specifications, except for the RAM, which was reported at 1.5 GB (the latest leak puts the RAM at 2GB). A couple of months ago, the Galaxy J2 (2016) was also spotted on India’s import/export website Zauba with a price tag very similar to that of its predecessor.

Overall, it can be said that the 2016 variant of J2 will represent a major update over the current version.

Galaxy J5 and Galaxy J7 prices out

Recently, the 2016 models of the popular Galaxy J5 and Galaxy J7 were announced in China. These handsets fit into the mid-range segment and offer attractive hardware.
