How To Fix The OnePlus 6T Battery Drain Issue

Updated on

The OnePlus 6T debuted last year with a bigger 3,700 mAh battery, which should easily last one full day in mixed use. However, some OnPlus 6T users recently started complaining that the battery is draining fast — sometimes in as little as four hours.

What’s causing the OnePlus 6T battery issue?

Many users affected by the OnePlus 6T battery issue took to social platforms to complain about it. Most of them say their phone’s battery life has almost halved. Further, they claim they have tried tweaking the settings, like clearing the cache, updating the phone, and enabling background restrictions for some apps, but so far nothing has worked.

“So for the past day or so my 6t’s battery has suddenly started draining from 80% extremely fast. If I had to guess I’d say my battery life was atleast [sic] halved all of a sudden and I’m not even putting it through heavy workloads or anything,” one user complained on Reddit.

Other users complained they have been facing similar issues for the past few days. One user noted that in addition to the OnePlus 6T battery issue, his phone was also heating up. However, the user claimed a factory reset of the phone fixed the issues.

Thus, other users facing the OnePlus 6T battery issue are recommended to try performing a factory reset. To try it, go to Settings > System > Reset options > Erase all data and select “Reset phone.”

Some claim a few other workarounds worked for them, like turning off app location services when they’re not in use. Many navigation apps run in the background and could drain the battery fast, so turning them off could save the battery. There were also reports recently that many fake GPS Android apps have made their way into the Play Store, so it’s a good idea to be cautious while installing such apps and scan the phone to see if any fake apps have been installed.

Another workaround is clearing the phone’s cache memory. Even though most affected users say it doesn’t help, it has worked for a small number of users. To clear the cache memory, go to Settings > Storage & memory > Cache data. Select “Cache data” and then press “OK.”

It is advised that users facing the OnePlus 6T battery issue try the other suggested workarounds before opting for a factory reset. Additionally, users must back up their data before performing a factory reset. To back up your data, go to Settings > System > Backup > Back up to Google Drive, and select “Account.” After choosing the account you want to save the backup data to, tap “OK” and then “Done.”

If a factory reset also doesn’t address the issue, then the only remaining option is to wait for a fix from the company. As of now, it is not known if the Chinese company is aware of the OnePlus 6T battery issue. However, in the past, the company has listened to user complaints on social media platforms and pushed out fixes quickly, so affected users will be hoping for the same thing this time around.

Rumors about the OnePlus 7

The OnePlus 6T sports the biggest battery ever in a OnePlus phone. In comparison, the OnePlus 6 came with a 3,300 mAh battery. Further, the Chinese company claims the OnePlus 6T supports Fast Charge, which enables the phone to get a day’s worth of battery power in just 30 minutes of charging.

The OnePlus 6T, which was launched last year, carried forward the Chinese company’s philosophy of delivering feature-rich devices at affordable prices. It sports a 6.41-inch display and comes with minimal bezels and a teardrop-shaped notch at the top. The screen also features an optical fingerprint scanner, giving users a new way to access their phone.

Meanwhile, OnePlus is reportedly working on its next flagship, the OnePlus 7. As of now, not much is known about this device officially, except for the chipset. It has already been confirmed that the OnePlus 7 will be powered by the Snapdragon 855, which is Qualcomm’s latest processor. This new processor offers more power and battery efficiency than last year’s Snapdragon 845.

Moreover, the Chinese company has already said it will release a 5G phone. Considering that the Snapdragon 855 chipset features Qualcomm’s X50 5G modem, the OnePlus 7 could be the first 5G phone from the Chinese company.
