The OnePlus 5T was revealed during a press event in New York on Thursday. The smartphone will start selling on November 21. Meanwhile, the iPhone 8, one of this year’s three new Apple models, came out two months ago. With the Christmas shopping season approaching, there’s no better time to upgrade your smartphone than now. This OnePlus 5T vs iPhone 8 comparison stacks the two devices up against another and compares their designs, screens, configurations, cameras, and prices.
OnePlus 5T vs iPhone 8: design
Many will agree that both devices look stunning. Apple’s iPhone 8 doesn’t vary too much from its predecessors in terms of design. It still features bezels around the screen and a flat rear. However, Apple covered the rear of the device with glass in order to make it compatible with the Qi wireless charging standard. The iPhone 8 is available in three colors: gold, silver and space gray.
The OnePlus 5T sports a dual-lens camera system on the rear, but more about that later. While the smartphone has a slightly curved metal build on the rear, it doesn’t sport the thick bezels the OnePlus 5 has. Instead, the smartphone has an enlarged screen at 6.01 inches and nearly no bezels.
Now that the smartphone sports a larger screen, OnePlus has moved the fingerprint scanner to the rear of the phone, while Apple tucked it on the front of its iPhone 8. The iPhone 8 is the second series of iPhones that do not have a 3.5mm headphone jack, while OnePlus retained it for its 5T and will probably keep it for its other phones.
The dimensions of the iPhone 8 are 5.45 x 2.65 x 0.29 inches, while it weighs 5.22 ounces. The OnePlus 5T’s dimensions are 6.15 x 2.95 x 0.29 inches, while it is heavier than the iPhone 8 at 5.71 ounces.
Screen
The screens on both devices are indeed wonderful, but the one on the OnePlus 5T is bigger. Its 6.01-inch AMOLED screen has a resolution of 2,160 x 1,080 and an 18:9 aspect ratio.
The iPhone 8’s IPS LCD screen is smaller at 4.7 inches with a resolution of 750 x 1,334 and a 16:9 aspect ratio. The screen of the OnePlus 5T is larger even than that of the larger iPhone 8 Plus, which sports a 5.5-inch screen with a 1,920 x 1,080 resolution.
Camera
The iPhone 8 sports a single-lens camera with a 12MP sensor, while the OnePlus 5T sports a dual-lens camera system with 20MP + 16MP sensors and a dual-LED flash. The front camera features a 16MP sensor on OnePlus 5T, as opposed to the 7MP front-facing camera on the iPhone 8.
Specs
Both of these smartphones are incredibly powerful, although they are powered by components that are nowhere near similar. For example, the iPhone 8 is powered by Apple’s own A11 Bionic processor. On the other hand, the OnePlus 5T will ship with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 chipset. While the iPhone 8 sports only 2GB of RAM, the OnePlus 5T managed to pack in 6GB and 8GB of RAM. Both smartphones offer a 64GB storage option, while Apple’s iPhone 8 is rewarded as winner when it comes to storage with up to 256GB, as opposed to the OnePlus 5T’s 128GB.
If you are still undecided on whether you choose the iPhone 8 or the newly announced OnePlus 5T, but you are restricted on a budget, then the prices could be just what will help you make up your mind. The OnePlus 5T starts at $499 for the 64GB model and $559 for the 128GB model.
On the other hand, the 64GB iPhone 8 is available for $699, while the 256GB version carries a hefty $849 price tag. Both phones are stylish and extremely powerful. It’s just a matter of personal preference whether you are fond of Apple’s top-notch design and iOS operating system or Google’s Android on the OnePlus 5T.
