Nokia Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:NOK) (BIT:NOK1V) (HEL:NOK1V) made several acquisitions over the past few months, and its most recent acquisition is the 3D geolocation technology Nice Systems Ltd (ADR) (NASDAQ:NICE) (TLV:NICE), security and surveillance company based in Israel.
The Finnish company said the acquisition of the 3D geolocation technology would improve the planning and optimization of mobile networks. Nokia the purchase would allow its Nokia Networks business to have access to tools, technical expertise and the right to further develop such capabilities.
Nokia to provide deep insight into traffic trends
Nokia Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:NOK) (BIT:NOK1V) (HEL:NOK1V) believed that combining the 3D geolocation technology with its services expertise would help the company provide deep insight into traffic trends and the performance of mobile networks.
Dennis Lorenzin, head of network planning and optimization, global services, Nokia Networks previously stated, “Advanced network planning and optimization services are at the forefront of Nokia Networks’ strategic services to mobile operators. The evolution of small cells and LTE necessitates more accurate 3D geolocation capabilities. Nokia Networks intends to enhance this unique solution in order to offer superior services to our customers, regardless of which network gear they use.”
Nokia Networks Head of Ecosystem Venture, Dror Nemirovsky said the company plans to build a competence center in Israel, and to develop its future portfolio around 3D modelling and increase automation services
Other acquisitions
Nokia Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:NOK) (BIT:NOK1V) (HEL:NOK1V) also acquired SAC Wireless, an infrastructure and network deployment solutions provider based in the United States. According to the company, the acquisition helps increase the market share of Nokia Networks in the network implementation space.
Ricky Corker, executive vice president of North America for Nokia Networks said SAC Wireless complements the capabilities of their in-house expertise, which positions the company in providing improved quality and increased end-to-end delivery efficiency to customers.
Nokia also acquired Mesaplexx, an Australian-based wireless company to be able to resize its base stations and small cell sites.
In addition, the company bought Medio Systems, a pioneer in real-time predictive analytics to enhance its mapping solution, HERE. According to Nokia, acquiring Medio Systems would accelerate HERE’s innovation in the area of contextual map making to deliver more personal experiences in cars, on mobile devices and to businesses.
