Nokia 9 Prototype Images Leaked: Here’s What They Reveal

Updated on

Nokia 9 might be just around the corner. Recent reports suggest that the device, along with other Nokia-branded handsets, will be unveiled in June. Ahead of the official launch, several images of a Nokia 9 prototype have surfaced online showing off some of its key features. Nokia 9 is going to be a premium handset that will target the same market segment as the Galaxy S8 and the upcoming iPhone 8.

Nokia 9 to have dual camera

The photos were posted by Manuel Castejon of Frandroid. It flaunts all the design cues that are the hallmark of a Nokia phone. The image leak comes just days after an official 39-second video was leaked, showing four different Nokia devices including the Nokia 9. In the images posted by Frandroid, the phone is enclosed in an ugly blue colored casing. Fortunately, we can still see a few things.

The prototypes are usually covered in such cases to prevent people from taking a detailed look at the hardware design. The blue casing has cutouts for speakers and a USB Type-C port at the bottom of the handset. HMD Global, the maker of Nokia devices, has decided to retain the 3.5mm headphone jack. Another image shows the antenna lines clearly visible on the phone.

One image indicates that Nokia 9 will run Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box. The device is expected to have a 5.3-inch display with an aspect ratio of 18:9. You can also see a dual camera system on the back, along with LED flash. Previous leaks suggest that the phone would have two 13-megapixel lenses on the back. Nokia will reportedly use Carl Zeiss lenses in its upcoming flagship smartphones.

Snapdragon 835, OZO audio

The phone will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 835, which runs the current Samsung Galaxy S8. It is said to pack 4GB RAM and 64GB of built-in storage, which you can further expand via a microSD card slot. You can also notice a launcher similar to the Pixel. The rumor mill also expects it to be compatible with Google’s Daydream VR platform. Samsung’s Galaxy S8 is also gaining the Daydream VR support this summer.

Other specs include QuickCharge technology, an iris scanner, and water-resistance. A recent report from Nokia Power User claimed that Nokia 9 would come with the OZO audio technology that enables a device to record 3D audio and spatial sound. The upcoming flagship phone is said to be priced at around $700, which is in the same range as other flagship devices such as the iPhone 7, Google Pixel, and Galaxy S8.

Nokia 9 appears on GeekBench 3

Nokia 9 is going to be a powerful phone. It has been spotted on the GeekBench 3 benchmark test. The device listed on GeekBench 3 was code named “HMD Global TA-1004.” It scored 7770 points in multi-core tests and 2255 points in single-core tests. One reason it performed so well in benchmark tests was the use of pure Android. It outperformed multiple devices running the Snapdragon 835. Unlike other Android vendors, Nokia uses stock Android on its devices.
