Netflix, Inc. (NFLX): Dutch Users Enjoy Fastest Streaming

Updated on

While Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX) has been offering its streaming services to the Netherlands for less than three months, the company has already determined that users in Holland are enjoying the fastest streaming of any country that has access to Netflix.

Netflix announces via blog

This was announced today in a blog post from Netflix that read:

We launched Netflix in the Netherlands three months ago and have always known that the Dutch have great broadband. That’s now confirmed by the Netflix ISP Speed Index: with a country average of 3.16Mbps the Netherlands takes a firm lead compared to the other nations in the index. No other country crosses 3Mpbs, but runners up Sweden and Denmark come close with 2.83Mpbs and 2.8Mpbs, respectively.

Looking at the bottom rankings, Mexico ranks last, just below Ireland and the US.

I suppose this makes a tremendous amount of sense given that the Dutch ride bicycles everywhere, seemingly they would need to make up for that with blindingly fast Internet speeds. That said, I’m well aware that driving in Amsterdam would take considerably longer than a bike quite often. Certainly, if you need to park said car.

What may surprise many is the fact that the United States has such slow Internet speeds especially since it (the internet) was “invented” by former vice-president and presidential hopeful Al Gore.

Clearly, faster speeds mean less interruptions in service as well as a clearer picture. All things being equal, there is a point where you just have more broadband than you need in order to stream Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX) content.

Netflix reaching new milestones

Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX) has recently reached two milestones with its streaming service. They now claim more than 40 million monthly subscribers who stream over 1 billion hours of content each month.

Of the Internet service providers that Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX) looked at in the United States, Google Fiber users still enjoy the fastest connection compared to Clearwater which offers near dial-up speeds to its unfortunate users.
