Murray Energy CEO: ‘I Am Scared To Death For Our Country’

In an interview to appear tonight on FOX Business Network’s (FBN) CAVUTO (8PM/ET), Murray Energy CEO Robert Murray speaks with FBN host Neil Cavuto about suing the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for its new emission standards saying, “it’s a human issue to me, because my employees’ lives are being destroyed.” Murray went on to say, President Obama “is destroying the most reliable, lowest cost power grid that the world has ever seen” and that “low cost electricity is a staple of life.” Murray also says, “it’s illegal how he’s used The Clean Air Act to try to get these regulations out” and that “I am scared to death for our country.”

Murray Energy CEO on President Obama’s new emission rules:

“It is a strategy way beyond coal companies. Of course, it’s a human issue to me, because my employees’ lives are being destroyed. But it is a redistribution of the wealth between the states. It is a higher plan to get government control over the electric power system in this country. I grew up poor. And people on fixed incomes and people who are poor, the poverty-stricken people who are going to be hurt the worst, had better be scared to death about what Mr. Obama and his EPA are doing. Plus, the fact that anyone that manufactures a product for the global market is not going to be able to because low cost electricity is a staple of life. We have to have low cost electricity. The man is absolutely destroying it.”

Murray Energy CEO on his lawsuit against the EPA:

“I know this, sir. I have spent 58 years working in the electric utility and coal industries. And I am scared to death for our country, as a man who grew up poor, for people on fixed incomes, for retirees, for the poverty-stricken and for people that manufacture a product. What he is doing is destroying the most reliable, lowest cost power grid that the world has ever seen. And by 2030, we’re going to be down from that 40 percent that you just mentioned, coal-fired, to 14 percent. That is the four cent a kilowatt hour electricity, while he attempts to replace it with 22 cent a kilowatt hour wind and solar.  It can’t be done. It’s unachievable. And it’s illegal how he’s used The Clean Air Act to try to get these regulations out. Is totally illegal. I have four lawsuits, and Murray Energy Corporation, against the Obama administration right now. Four states attorneys general have joined us in those lawsuits. This is going to have traction. This will be litigated for some time. But in the meantime, sir, 411 coal-fired power plants, 100,000 megawatts of the lowest cost electricity, is going to be shut down while it’s being litigated. And this is very scary to me.”

Murray Energy CEO on whether the new EPA rules is an all-out assault on coal:

“No, it isn’t. It’s not just an assault on coal. It’s a total and dangerous take-over. These greenhouse gas regulations of the electric power grid and low cost electricity in America. There will be no more electricity generation in this country unless the U.S. EPA approves it. It’s a total bypass and usurpation of the federal energy regulatory commission, and, more importantly, the state regulatory commissions.”

Murray Energy CEO on whether prices will go up because of the new EPA rule:

“They’re going to go up”
