McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE:MCD) announced the decision of Jeff Stratton to retire as president of McDonald’s USA after 41 years of service.

The board of directors of the company immediately appointed Mike Andres, a former McDonald’s executive to replace Stratton.  Andres will assume his role as the new president of McDonald’s USA on October 15, the date of Stratton’s retirement.

In a statement, Don Thompson, president and CEO of McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE:MCD) said, “When I tapped Jeff to assume the role of McDonald’s USA president nearly two years ago, I asked him to lay the foundation for future growth in the U.S. market.”

“No one has worked more tirelessly to do that for this brand than Jeff. We are deeply grateful for his years of leadership and service, and wish him and his family all of the best,” added Thompson.

Andres to directly report to McDonald’s CEO

McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE:MCD) said Andres will report directly to Thompson. Andres will also supervise the Canadian market as part of his responsibilities.

Andres started his career in the restaurant industry as the manager for his family-owned McDonald’s restaurant in Northern California. From there, he built a 30-year record of success assuming different leadership roles at McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE:MCD).

He worked in the marketing, operations and development until he became regional vice president and senior vice president of the largest restaurant chain operator. According to McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE:MCD), Andres served as CEO of Boston Market from 2001 to 2007 when it was a subsidiary of McDonald’s. He served as president of Central Division in the U.S. from 2010 to 2012. During his tenure, Andres delivered strong comparable sales, income and guest count.

Andres is rejoining McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE:MCD) from his recent job at Logan’s Roadhouse, Inc. wherein he served as chairman and CEO.

Ideal leader for McDonald’s USA

According to Thompson, Andres is an ideal leader to take McDonald’s USA into the future because he is a progressive and strategic thinker with deep understanding of consumers and the marketplace.

“Mike brings a wealth of knowledge of McDonald’s and has built strong relationships across the system, as well as broader experience in the Informal Eating Out industry. He’s a dynamic, proven leader, and I am confident he will help lead our U.S. business to the next level,” said Thompson.
