This should be very good news for those of you who were worried about updating to iOS 11 when it is released in the coming days or weeks. Jay Freeman, better known in the jailbreaking community as Saurik, released an update for his Cydia Impactor tool which allows it to work with the iOS 11 beta and, presumably, future iOS 11 releases. That’s right, an iOS 11 Cydia Impactor tool is here!
For those of you that have never heard of Cydia Impactor; it basically allows both jailbroken and non-jailbroken iOS users to sideload IPAs to their device. This means that apps which have been blocked from entering Apple’s walled garden can be installed and used – no jailbreaking required.
The iOS 11 Cydia Impactor update is just another in the series of consistent updates that Freeman has released for Cydia Impactor. It’s great to see that this project is getting consistent and timely updates. Considering the current state of jailbreaking, Cydia Impactor may be the future of iOS customization.
If you have already been using Cydia Impactor then the update should come OTA for you when you use the “check for updates” option. If you haven’t yet installed Cydia Impactor, what are you waiting for?! Grab the latest iOS Cydia Impactor update from the Cydia Impactor website and start sideloading some apps!
This new update also includes a fix for people who may have been experiencing issues with WatchOS apps. Overall, it’s a very solid update to Cydia Impactor and we can’t wait to see what’s in store down the road.
With iOS 11 coming soon – most likely next week after Apple’s big launch event – it’s good to know that Cydia Impactor users will likely be able to update to the newest version of iOS without losing the ability to sideload apps. I guess you can have your cake and eat it too!
