The iPhone 7 and 7 Plus have hit the retail store shelves. In just three days of launch, users have started complaining about a strange issue. The problem was first reported by Stephen Hackett of 512 Pixels. Hackett said that his iPhone 7 Plus was producing a hissing sound from the logic board. The noise only gets louder when the phone is under load.
The ‘hissing-gate’ affects both iPhone 7 and 7 Plus
Other users indicated that the problem extends to the 4.7-inch iPhone 7 as well. Hackett first heard the hissing sound when he was restoring his brand new device via iCloud. The noise was loud enough to be heard even when the iPhone 7 Plus is face-up on a desk. Hackett posted about the issue on Twitter and shared the link to a YouTube video to the hissing sound from his 7 Plus.

Apple told Hackett that his device would get replaced with a new one as soon as possible. The tech giant is yet to officially comment on the “hissing-gate.” Darrell Etherington of TechCrunch also reported that his just unboxed iPhone 7 Plus was emitting the same hissing sound. This kind of noise is called “coil noise” which is produced by a powerful processor when under load.
@ismh brand new, just-unboxed doing the same thing right now. did not restore, set up as new (still DL-ing email etc)

Users blame A10 Fusion chip for the issue
The coil noise is because of CPU overload. The iPhone 7 and 7 Plus come with a powerful A10 Fusion processor. It is 40% more powerful than the iPhone 6S chipset and twice as powerful as the iPhone 6. In fact, it’s even more powerful than the A9X processor inside the 12.9-inch iPad Pro. Naturally, many users are blaming the ultra-powerful processor for the hissing sound.

Marco Arment, an iOS developer, said on Twitter that the noise was “the phone equivalent of hearing the fans spin up loudly whenever your Mac’s CPU gets used to its actual potential.” The new iPhone 7 features an improved 12MP camera with a f/1.8 aperture, while the Plus version sports a dual rear camera. The iPhone 7 and 7 Plus come in 32GB, 128GB, and 256GB storage options.
