Apple is gearing up to launch its next-gen iPhone 6S and 6S Plus in September. Anticipating strong demand, the tech giant has asked its suppliers to produce 90 million units of the new phones this year. Though the iPhone 6S and its bigger sibling will bring some exciting under-the-hood changes, their design will remain the same as the current flagship iPhones.

But there will be a minor difference in thickness

GSM Arena has obtained images of iPhone 6S cases from smartphone accessories maker ITSKINS. The cases point to an unchanged design in new phones. The camera sensor and flash light sit on the top left corner, while the lock/power button is on the right side of the device. That’s not surprising at all because the ‘S’ models have historically retained the appearance of their predecessor.

However, there will be some minor design changes. We reported last month that the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus would be slightly thicker. So the iPhone 6S cases won’t be compatible with iPhone 6 ones. KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has confirmed on several occasions that Apple would incorporate Force Touch sensor into the new iPhones’ display. It will increase the thickness of new iPhones by 0.2mm. Anyway, most users won’t even notice this minor difference.

Two major improvements in the iPhone 6S

Force Touch can distinguish between a gentle tap and a hard press, allowing users to interact with the touchscreen in whole new ways. And yes, Apple is using a new Series 7000 aluminum alloy in the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus to make sure that the new phones are bend-proof. Series 7000 is the same alloy used in Apple Watch, and it is 60% tougher than the material used in current iPhone 6.

The iPhone 6s will feature a 4.7-inch display while its bigger sibling will come with a 5.5-inch screen. The new iPhones are rumored to sport 2GB RAM, 12-megapixel main camera with OIS and 4K video recording, 5MP front camera, and A9 processor. What’s more, Apple will also bring the next-gen iPhones in rose-gold color option.
