Intel Corporation (INTC) Ups Effort In Low Power Server Markets

Stifel released a research note on Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), based on an event hosted by the chipmaker “Reimagine the Data Center” event. According to Stifel, Intel provided more information on its low-power server roadmap for 2013 and 2014. Analysts hold the view that Intel is performing as per its set strategy of gaining traction on various computing platforms. Additionally, the chip maker is targeting those markets where other companies are launching 64 bit ARM based products.

Intel to lead in low power servers

Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) will hold a major share in the low power servers as the company is utilizing its architectural expertise, a lead in process technology, and a well-established ecosystem, which has been made over many years in the server market.

Intel is also focusing on SoC methodologies in order to achieve low power, cost and solution that are strengthening its position in the competition. Stifel is maintaining a ‘Buy’ rating and a 12 month target price of $28.

According to the report, Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) is utilizing various skills in order to gain largest share in the server market that gives thrust on SoC methodology. Analysts at Stifel hold the view that skills and ability to run heritage software will assist Intel to hold traction amongst ARM-based competitors. Stifel also believes that announcement made by Intel is good for Mellanox as use of interconnect technology is justified through Rack Scale vision. According to report, high speed network connectivity is essential for powerful Intel core-based servers whereas Atom based products are for lower performance market where Mellanox is not present.

Upcoming products from Intel

Intel, in the event, discussed its Atom based C2000 product segment based on Silvermont core and announced the launch in 2013. Avoton from Intel is focused on low power micro servers. Rangely product is concerned with the networking application. Both products from Intel are based on 22nm process, incorporating up to 8 processor cores and include 4 integrated 1GbE Ethernet ports. Analysts are not expecting these products to have the highest Ethernet speeds.

Other than these, Intel also declared new products for fiscal 2014, including a 14nm Broadwell design, smaller size of Xeon E3 Haswell-based product to be launched this fiscal. Another product is 14nm Broadwell SoC, which has an extra function. The last product announced was a 14nm denverton SoC, which is a follow-on high-density SoC to Avoton and Rangely.

Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) is working on linking network controllers with the sever CPU, but the report says that these integrated devices will be slower than Discrete solution by at least one generation.
