Updated on

Just last month HTC launched the U Ultra smartphone which is powered by the much talked about Snapdragon 821 processor. However, this powerhouse is last years technology, so we were initially expecting something better from HTC. But, there are now rumors of an HTC 11, a device which will usurp the U and become HTC’s flagship device for 2017. Here are the latest rumors, leaks, and everything that is known about the handset.

HTC 11 Follows in the Footsteps of its Predecessors

When the Taiwanese manufacturer launched the HTC 10 in May last year, it quickly proved to be a great handset. Gone where the ridiculers who hated its predecessor and so it appeared that another strong Android showing was inevitable. Unfortunately, no matter how good the handset, HTC can not match the likes of Apple and Samsung for brand power. So the HTC 10 could not compete in a head-on sales contest.

Fast forward to 2017 and news, leaks and various rumors about the HTC 11 place it as a rival to the Galaxy S8.

The Best Processor and RAM

What looks like a leak was recently published on the Chinese social network Weibo. This leak showed the About Phone” screen within Androids settings. And it is there where all of the most recent talk about the power of the handset has come from. As according to what can be seen the HTC 11 will get Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 835 processor. That would bring it in line with other flagships for 2017, however, couple that with 6GB of RAM and it’s competing at the top!

Other information revealed on Weibo point towards an updated HTC Sense running at 9.0 over Android Nougat. Additionally, there’s the screen resolution, which is said to be 1556 x 2560, if accurate this would be better than QHD. And then finally, there’s some information about internal storage. Apparently, a huge 128GB is available. Is this the max storage available for this particular variant? We don’t know like most manufacturers it’s likely that more than one capacity will be available.

HTC 11 or Ocean Note?

Chilean Chang, a senior HTC executive, President of Smartphone and Connected Devices at HTC was recently interviewed by Engadget and said:

“No handset with the name of HTC 11 will be launched this in 2017, we’re expecting a flagship under a different name entirely.”

Concerning this, some rumors have pointed towards a device called the Ocean Note being HTC’s flagship for 2017. It according to that speculation will launch alongside two mid-range devices.

Release Date?

As it’s so early in the rumor mill process, not many have dared to take a stab at guessing the answer to this question. However, if you look at the past, it soon becomes apparent that HTC likes to deliver early, how early? If you look at the previous four flagship launches, within the first four months of a year is the pattern!

  • HTC 10 – April 12, 2016
  • One M9 – March 1, 2015
  • One M8 – March 25, 2014
  • HTC One M7 – February 19, 2013

Now if you’re thinking Mobile World Congress in Barcelona would be a great place to launch the HTC 11, you’re right! And in 2015 with the M9 HTC did just that, however, it skipped the event last year. And it has already stated that it will miss the 2017 event too, but that doesn’t mean, no early launch.
