David Petraeus has joined KKR & Co. L.P. (NYSE:KKR), which is a private-equity firm, reports WSJ. David is a former Army General of United States and resigned from the post Central Intelligence Agency chief, last year.

How Petraeus will be useful to KKR

The former general will hold the post of chairman of a new internal “institute”, which will be mainly engrossed on macroeconomic forecasts, communications and public policy, and will also give advice on the developing markets.

KKR is a large equity firm, which is renowned for its large debt backed by corporate takeovers. According to a source who is familiar with the development the company, said that the experience and Rolodex of Mr Petraeus will help the company to enhance its deals and works.

Using his far stretched network, Mr Petraeus can get the company some big deals in some foreign countries where KKR is still new and does not have deep experience. The experience of the former general will assist the company in analyzing the risk and rewards of offbeat investments.

Mr Petraeus is 60 years of age is going to be one of the most popular faces in at KKR. Mr Petraeus has commanded forces in areas like Iraq and Afghanistan. He has toured almost everywhere in the world and shares good understanding with military, economic and political leaders worldwide.

Last year, after an extramarital affair was unearthed between Petraeus and his biographer, Paula Broadwell, Petraeus had to resign as a CIA director. The affair came in the light during the on-going investigation of the accusations that Broadwell has sent threatening emails to a Tampa socialite. The investigation is still in course.

Ken Mehlman, who is a former Republican National Committee chairman and at present he is the global head of public affairs in KKR & Co. L.P. (NYSE:KKR) said Mr. Petraeus is “someone who has served in an incredibly effective and in some ways heroic way.” He said that the record of creative thinking and leadership, which Mr Petraeus has, will help the company in every aspect.

Mr Petraeus said, now he is looking forward to the future, and while delivering a speech at the University of Southern California where he currently teaches, he said that he knows that everyone looks at him from a different perspective now compared to a year ego. Mr Petraeus also said that now he is sorry for the decision he made that lead him to his resignation under certain circumstances.
