Galaxy S6 Edge Survives Insane Drop Test [Video]

Updated on

When Samsung unveiled its dual-edge Galaxy S6 Edge at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, some of the obvious concerns were related to its curved display. Experts feared that it might not handle drops as gracefully as devices with regular screens. However, a new video coming out of Korea shows that the Galaxy S6 Edge could endure a brutal drop test without a scratch.

A testimony to the Galaxy S6 Edge’s build quality

Korean YouTube user Beaminwoo has uploaded a video of a woman slamming the Galaxy S6 Edge against a hard floor thrice. The phone survives the ordeal without a scratch. If you were not convinced by Samsung’s claims, this video is the latest testimony to the build quality of the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. After slamming the phone against the ground, it was fully functional.

The video demonstrates that the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge could easily handle accidental drops without any damage. The Galaxy S6 Edge gets its rigidity from Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection panel. The fourth generation Gorilla Glass comes with an improved drop performance and a higher resistance to scratches. The Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge have a metal and Gorilla Glass build.

Another Galaxy S6 Edge drop test shows similar durability

Meanwhile, Keaton of TechSmartt posted a separate YouTube video showing the durability of the Galaxy S6 Edge. Keaton dropped the phone from various heights, ranging from waist-level to about 7-feet in the air. The device showed some damage only after multiple tries, and the metal lip suffered the most damage. Going by these videos, the Galaxy S6 Edge can endure some serious wear and tear.

The Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge will go for sale on April 10th. The Korean company has already received more than 20 million pre-orders for its new flagship phones from wireless carriers worldwide. The devices sport a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED display, 16-megapixel main camera, 5-megapixel front snapper, Android Lollipop and 64-bit Exynos 7420 processor.
