The Samsung Galaxy S10 is a special device in several ways, be it the fingerprint sensor, bigger battery, punch-hole display and more. But, one feature that is really unique to this Samsung flagship is the integration with Instagram. Yes, there is a Galaxy S10 Instagram mode that makes it way easier for users to upload their images on the Facebook-owned social platform.
Galaxy S10 Instagram mode – what is it?
During the release of the Galaxy S10, Samsung executives talked about the Galaxy S10 Instagram mode. “We’ve worked together to rethink the experience of Instagram on the S10,” Adam Mosseri, Instagram’s head of product, said onstage at the Galaxy Unpacked event.

Demonstrating the Instagram mode, Mosseri even took a selfie of himself with DJ Koh, president of Samsung’s mobile business, on stage. Mosseri noted that the Galaxy S10 is the best way “to express yourself on Instagram.”
This Instagram mode is added to Samsung’s stock camera app. One can easily select it like one chooses other camera options like panorama or pro shooting modes. To find the Instagram mode, first open the camera app, then go to the right side on the options at the bottom where you will find the Instagram mode at the end.
The feature allows users to click and upload directly to Instagram stories. Moreover, the feature also includes all known Instagram stickers, editing tools, text, hashtags and more.
“Instagram’s mission is to bring you closer to the people and things you love, and we’re always working on new ways for people to express themselves and connect with their friends,” an Instagram spokeswoman said.
Not available out of the box
But, a point to note is that the feature was not available out of the box, rather the Korean firm added it later with a software update. Now, owners of unlocked S10 devices will have access to this feature, but the same can’t be said about the carrier branded device. However, AT&T came up with an update recently to enable the Instagram mode on the Galaxy S10, notes a report from tech site PiunikaWeb.
As was expected, those who have this feature have already started using it and they like it. “Yay Instagram mode update had landed #S10,” one user tweeted.
Additionally, along with adding an Instagram mode to the Galaxy S10, Samsung also plans to open its camera in the SDK to allow developers to use the newly introduced camera app in their own apps. For now, the list of the partners includes Snapchat, Snow and Lime.
It means photos that you take in those apps will be as good as the one you take from the native camera app. However, none of these apps enjoy the special treatment of being available in the camera app itself, like the Instagram app.
Galaxy S10 – all you need to know
Talking of the Galaxy S10, the handset comes with a 6.1-inch AMOLED display with an aspect ratio of 19:9, and pixel density of 550ppi. One special thing about the display is that it is an Infinity-O display, and thus, features a hole-punch cutout/notch in the upper-left corner.
Such a display means more screen real-estate. Also, the bezels – both top and bottom – have shrunk when compared to the S9. So, you get more viewing area when watching your favorite show or movie, playing games and more.
Another attraction is the in-display fingerprint sensor. This sensor, which is hidden underneath the display, comes only with the S10 and S10 Plus but not the S10e. To use this feature, there is a designated area at the bottom middle of the screen where users can place their finger to unlock the device.
The S10 is the first device to use Qualcomm’s ultrasonic sensing technology. This technology creates a 3D model of your fingerprint, unlike the 2D image captured by other in-screen sensors. The use of the 3D model means faster unlocks and the device being more secure as well.
Further, the S10 features a triple rear camera setup – a 12-megapixel f/2.4 aperture telephoto lens, a secondary 12-megapixel f/1.5 dual aperture lens and a 16-megapixel f/2.2 aperture sensor with an ultra-wide-angle lens. Both the 12-megapixel sensors come with OIS support. On the front, both the S10 and the S10e feature a 10-megapixel sensor with f1.9 auto-focus lens. The Galaxy S10 Plus, in addition, features a second 8-megapixel RGB depth sensor as well.
Other usual features that come with the S10 line include a display with 800nits of brightness, Dolby ATMOS audio support, super slow motion video recording up to 8 seconds and IP68 certification for water and dust resistance. All the variants – the Galaxy S10, S10 Plus and S10e – run on Android Pie OS.
