Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7 is the latest and one of the greatest Android phones out there. Powered by 4GB RAM and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, it appears to be far ahead of Apple’s year-old iPhone 6S in terms of performance, at least on paper. The iPhone 6S comes with a mere 2GB RAM and a dual-core A9 processor. A real-life speed test tells an entirely different story.
Galaxy Note 7 took more than two minutes to launch 14 apps
Folks at PhoneBuff conducted a performance comparison where the Galaxy Note 7 and the iPhone 6S simultaneously launched the same apps – such as the camera, resource-intensive graphics programs, and games. Even though the iPhone 6S appears to have older and weaker hardware components, it defeated the Note 7 by a handsome distance.
The cutting-edge Galaxy Note 7 took two minutes and four seconds to launch 14 apps and render a video. The iPhone 6S was able to launch the same apps and render the same video in just one minute and 21 seconds. The Note 7 took two minutes and 49 seconds to cycle through two laps of the test, but the iPhone 6S did it in just one minute and 51 seconds.
Apple’s software and hardware integration gives iPhone an edge
The results aren’t surprising given Apple tightly integrates its hardware and software to optimize real-world performance. The superior integration helped the year-old iPhone to perform better than the latest Android device with seemingly better hardware components. However, it’s worth pointing out that not many people open a number of apps so quickly. Also, the Galaxy Note 7 has split-screen and Glance feature that let you multi-task.
Apple is gearing up to unveil the next-gen iPhone 7 and 7 Plus at a special event on September 7. The Cupertino company is said to start taking pre-orders on September 9 before making the device available in retail stores on September 23. The iPhone 7 and 7 Plus will look similar to the iPhone 6S, but without the headphone jack. The bigger version will reportedly sport a dual camera, 3GB RAM, and a Smart Connector.
